Position Purpose

Ensure test lab compliance with prescribed procedures, assist laboratories in running at acceptable levels of severity and precision.

Responsibilities

* Develop a thorough working knowledge of assigned test procedures.

* Conduct laboratory visits to ensure proper testing in accordance with the test procedures.

* Discern causes of laboratory or industry problems through lab visits, statistical studies, hardware studies, etc. and take appropriate corrective action.

* Disseminate appropriate information both internally and to the proper outside industry groups in a timely and professional fashion.

* Use control charts and other statistical and data retrieval techniques to provide routine and consistent test calibration and monitoring.

* Represent the TMC on the appropriate industry committees in a manner consistent with ASTM policy.

* Determine test acceptance as well as ensure compliance to the test procedure through an appropriate review mechanism.

* Assist TMC efforts for ASTM Rating Workshops, Rating Manual revisions, and evaluation of rater performance. Communicate rating issues to industry panels as needed.

* Schedule reference tests in a meaningful and scientific fashion.

* Maintain proper laboratory oil inventories.

* Schedule testing to introduce new reference oils

* Obtain sufficient engineering skills in other test areas to temporarily carry on office responsibilities of peers.

Minimum Requirements

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

* A proficiency in statistics sufficient to conduct/lead TMC statistical analyses and to be able to interpret complex statistical analyses conducted by industry statisticians.

* Professional public speaking and presentation skills sufficient to present complex issues to a large audience.

* Computer/Software/Programming proficiencies: MS Office, SQL, SAS, JMP. Preferred Qualifications & Competencies

* Three years of experience in automotive lubricant testing or engine development
