Overview

The Manager of Technical Accounting's primary responsibilities will include researching new and proposed accounting standards, assessing and documenting technical accounting considerations related to revenue, purchase accounting, impairment, lease accounting and other accounting topics to support eleven client companies, of which eight are registered on a national stock exchange.

The Manager of Technical Accounting will work closely with various members within the RMR Accounting organization, as well as numerous functions within RMR, Asset Management, Real Estate Services, and external valuation professionals and auditors. This role will have one direct report and is critical to the success of the organization from a compliance perspective as well as for key succession planning throughout the organization.



Responsibilities

    Serve as a resource to the RMR organization for assessing and documenting technical accounting considerations that arise in the normal course of operations.
  • Research new or proposed accounting standards and with proposals for impacts and considerations to RMR and its client companies.
  • Research SEC filings (Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, Form 8-K and Correspondence) and provide assistance to the financial reporting teams, as needed.
  • Proactively research peer companies to assess alignment of accounting conclusions and disclosures within the real estate and financial service industries.
  • Evaluate best practices between RMR and its client companies and their peers.
  • Assist with documenting our purchase accounting activities and documenting conclusions.
  • Take the lead on special projects and strategic initiatives as they arise, including documenting and benchmarking internal policies and procedures.
  • Manage the SOX 404 program including collaborating with external resources and the broader accounting team.
  • Continually evaluate opportunities to automate processes and procedures to reduce financial reporting risk.
  • Ensure effective operational implementation of accounting policy.
  • Present technical accounting proponents and analysis to Senior Leadership.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferable) or private industry (large public registrant preferable). CPA required.
  • Strong technical accounting (US GAAP) and business writing skills.
  • Experience with public company reporting.
  • Excellent client service orientation.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and other Windows applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Must be a team oriented, problem solver.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external teams.
  • An individual who will challenge the status quo and think outside the box.
  • Ability to respond to frequent ad hoc requests.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with people management and career development focus preferred.
