Department Summary The University of North Texas Health Science Center is one of the three higher education institutions of the University of North Texas (UNT) System, with the UNT at Denton and the UNT at Dallas as two other higher education institutions. The UNT System provides high-quality education to those in the North Texas region, including Fort Worth, Dallas, Denton, and Frisco, as well as those from other states. Position Overview The College of Public Health (CPH) at The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) seeks applications to fill a full-time open rank faculty position in the Department of Population & Community Health. This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment with a primary focus on developing and collaborating for externally funded research and covering graduate education in biostatistics and related fields. The candidate should have earned a doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline. The successful candidate should demonstrate a record of independent and/or collaborative research programs or have an emerging record of developing such programs. The candidate will teach graduate-level biostatistics courses annually. The faculty member will also contribute to course development and curriculum planning, advise and mentor graduate students, provide service to the department and university, and engage in scholarly activities focusing on the scholarship of teaching and learning. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate effectiveness in developing and collaborating with research teams to obtain external research funding and a commitment to developing and practicing effective, evidence-based teaching strategies tailored to public health-related applications. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a closely related quantitative field Proven graduate-level teaching experience Strong commitment to evidence-based teaching practices and student success Knowledge, Skills and Abilities N/A Preferred Qualifications Assistant Professor Rank Strong potential to develop an independent research program on methodological studies Strong potential to work collaboratively for research projects and contracts Evidence of teaching effectiveness and exceptional communication skills Course development experience (both in-person and online) Associate Professor Rank Evidence of independent scholarship and/or team-based research, the uptake of research/scholarly work into use by scholars, practitioners, policymakers, educators, community organizations and/or academics, and a national reputation Evidence of team science research projects and external funding Evidence of an identifiable body of peer-reviewed publications and citations Evidence of evidence-based, high-impact educational practices and mentoring students Evidence of mentoring junior colleagues Experience as an environmental health consultant in academic research or industry settings Evidence of local, institutional and national service records Full Professor Rank Evidence of a substantial and sustained record of success in externally funded research/scholarly activity Active R01 equivalent extramural funding Evidence of a sizable body of research outputs (publications, citations, programs, other scholarly work) and its demonstrated impact Evidence of innovative, evidence-based teaching and mentoring practices and outcomes Evidence of publicly engaged scholarship, implementation science and community-partnered scholarship, and other impactful work that facilitates the uptake of evidence-based practice and research into regular use by practitioners, policymakers, educators, community organizations, or academics Required License/Registration/Certifications N/A Job Duties: Research: Develop and maintain an externally funded, active research portfolio as principal investigator or as part of teams Engage in biostatistical methodology research with applications to health sciences Collaborate with CPH and UNTHSC colleagues and external academic and community partners to develop vibrant research teams and nurture an inclusive, interdisciplinary collaborative environment Develop new collaborative relationships with academic, community, and industry partners to provide opportunities for faculty and students Teaching and Curriculum Development: Develop and deliver graduate-level biostatistics, data science, and related courses Create and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments to ensure curriculum relevance and alignment with the latest academic and industry trends Mentor students and early career researchers through advising and consultation on research projects and career development Service, Engagement, and Professional Development: Provide leadership in the College of Public Health and UNTHSC Stay current with emerging trends and challenges in biostatistics Participate in relevant professional organizations and networks to maintain a strong presence to help improve student recruitment and outcomes and CPH reputation Be an engaged scholar outfacing the community Work Schedule: As required to meet the academic schedule.
