Overview

Under the general direction of the Patient or Clinical Service Manager and in cooperation with all the members of the patient care teams, performs a wide range of customer relations, environmental, patient care, and supply functions to fully support patient care activities. Anticipates the needs of the operative schedule and proactively provides the necessary clinical support to maintain and stock core areas, to prepare cases, and to transport patients for surgery.
Although it is necessary to identify specific tasks relating to this position, the overriding responsibility is to integrate this role into the patient care model to ensure that the patient care team works for the good of the patient: other specific tasks may be added or deleted from the day -to-day operationalization of this position, as the patient care team adapts to the daily needs of the patients we serve . Demonstrates an outstanding commitment to excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Under the direction of the Holding Area R.N., anticipates the needs of the Operative Schedule.
    • 1.1 Provides physical assistance to nursing staff performing patient care and transports patients throughout the hospital as needed.
  • 2. Performs cleaning tasks and responsibilities to ensure the sanitary condition of the O.R.
    • 2.1 Sets up cleaning equipment and readiness for use with necessary supplies at the beginning of each shift.
  • 3. Meets established standards for the maintenance, cleaning, inventory and control of all medical-surgical equipment
    • 3.1 In OBS, maintains par levels of all medical-surgical equipment. Locates and returns all equipment which is missing from the O.R.
  • 4. Maintains supply inventory in all areas and provides essential errand services for the O.R.
    • 4.1 Inventories and stocks all areas according to established par levels with 100% accuracy (e.g. all supply closets, blanket warming closets, universal precaution stations, O.R., etc.)
  • 5. Maintains competency in areas of responsibility and participates in Unit activities that promote a cohesive team.
    • 5.1 Completes online mandatory continuing education classes as required. Ensure annual PPD is current.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school graduate or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

This is the entry level for O.R. Assistant II during the one year orientation.
Within 60 days of hire into the position must:
'Gain knowledge of sterile techniques.
'Be proficient in location of equipment, instruments and supplies for ability to gather or
return these items.
'Have competency in transporting patients and handling medical gas cylinders.
'Be proficient in selecting proper instruments and supplies based upon physician
preference codes.
'Be proficient in identifying sterile supplies and equipment from unsterile.

LICENSURE

Heavy lifting ability. Physical/emotional stamina. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Proven organizational skills and ability to act proactively in performing job responsibilities. Friendly and cooperative attitude with patients and team members.
