THE POSITION

Utilize your education and gain valuable experience while contributing to the health, safety, and security of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania! The Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security (OHS) and Criminal Intelligence Center (PaCIC) is seeking students working towards a degree in criminal justice, criminology, homeland security, and other closely related fields to enter an unpaid internship for Summer 2025. Apply today to work with OHS to build the capabilities necessary to prevent, protect against, and mitigate the effects of adversarial actions, and to work with PaCIC in enhancing public safety and protecting critical infrastructure from terrorism and other crime.



DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Intern for the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Center, you will research cybersecurity, infrastructure security programs, and public and private sector preparedness initiatives. This will include conducting open-source research on cybersecurity and physical security threats and vulnerabilities. You will assist with cybersecurity activities, critical infrastructure protection activities, researching and writing a Drug Information Series, and the preparation of training events. You can expect to provide support for the Homeland Security Grant Program and State Administrative Agency reporting requirements and assist with development, preparation, and execution of the tabletop exercises. You will research and test Open-Source Intelligence platforms alongside Threat Analysis Unit analysts. You will also participate in a disposed case investigation to create a timeline of events, a link analysis chart, and a map to aid in cell phone analysis using visual investigative analysis. Additionally, you will prepare requested research, attend meetings discussing public safety of international events occurring in Pennsylvania, and gather or process data to assist in geospatial projects to help create a usable application.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time unpaid internship in Summer 2025
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree program (or higher) in criminal justice, homeland security, political science, cyber security, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants shall have satisfactorily completed 60 college credits by June 2025.
  • Applicants must have a valid driver's license.

Legal Requirements:

  • Applicants shall have no adult criminal conviction graded Misdemeanor 2 or higher under PA Title 18 (or its equivalent for out-of-state and federal convictions).
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
