Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Radio Technician to provide radio and electronic systems support for the Detroit Arsenal. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Test, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, align, and program electronic systems and sub-systems during repair and refurbishment operations of various types of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment.
  • Develop requirements for alternative power systems for field deployed communications equipment.
  • Prepare alternative power systems for field deployment.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair (including component level repairs that may require soldering), calibration, and alignment using bench top test procedures and automated test equipment.
  • Perform post-maintenance operational checks and testing of all LMR equipment.
  • Perform technical writing, supply and logistics support, warehousing, inventory, materials handling, computer operations, assembly, set-up, and testing activities that support the mission.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with drawings, schematics, or technical manuals, sketches and/or verbal instruction from the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Maintain clean, healthy, safe, and orderly work areas; ensuring items such as tools and radio equipment are properly stored and secured at the end of their shift.
  • Records, logs, and documents shall be maintained and completed in accordance with applicable manuals, regulations, standard operating procedures or directives.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, procedures, practices, and guidelines at all times.


Qualifications

3+ years experience providing LMR support. Must have experience with and thorough knowledge of radios. Extensive knowledge/understanding of 2-way radio theory and RF propagation at various frequency bands. Able to program, install, repair and troubleshoot Land Mobile Radio equipment. Able to demonstrate sophisticated problem solving skills. Familiar with test equipment such as service monitors/communication system analyzers, multimeters, TDR's, FDR's, watt meters, and spectrum analyzers. Must be proficient in installation, repair, alignment, and maintenance of analog and digital trunked radio communications systems. Experience with equipment involving microwave radio, digital and analog multiplex equipment, receivers and transmitters, digital and analog receiver voting systems, timing/synchronization oscillator systems, simulcast control systems, computer control systems, Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) console switches, consoles, and mobile and portable radio equipment. Must be fully trained and experienced in the use of each piece of test equipment. Must be physically able to perform the following: able to lift and carry approximately twenty (20) pounds (lbs.); sit for extended periods; walk around warehouse facilities and parts storage areas; use hand tools to troubleshoot and repair radio equipment, including soldering individual components; and able to visually inspect radio equipment including individual components under magnification. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office. Able to deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
