Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:

The selected candidate performs assigned secretarial and clerical duties necessary for the efficient operation of a Milwaukee Public School or Central Office Department. Must fluently read, write, and speak Spanish.

PAY RATE: $29,606 to start (10-month)

$32,567 to start (11-month)

$37,185 to start (12-month)

Qualifications

  • A High school diploma or a GED is required
  • Additional education or advanced secretarial training is desire
  • One or more years of previous clerical experience with PC skills
  • Experience in a high volume work environment is desired
Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs secretarial and clerical duties for the principal and/or other administrative staff, to include mail distribution, site email maintenance, word processing tasks, maintaining schedules and calendars and general data entry and data maintenance in MPS databases, to include student records, employee professional development and others.
  • Tracks attendance of students, sends notifications to parents for delinquency and addresses other attendance issues as directed; coordinates with the School Social Worker.
  • Enrolls, transfers and processes withdrawals of students according to Board policies, ensuring all records are all updated.
  • Receives messages and communicates via telephone and in person with parents, the public, students and other school personnel. Provides excellent service in a high volume environment.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate records and files to include CUM folders, emergency access cards and attendance excuses and records.
  • Assists in maintaining school cost center budgets related to ordering, receiving and distribution of materials and supplies. Ensures adequate funds are available and reconciles accounts as necessary.
  • Coordinates transportation and addresses various issues for students who are bussed.
  • Assists with tracking hours for payroll purposes.
  • Operates office machines and equipment necessary for efficient operation of the school office.
  • Assists students with minor health concerns; bandages, ice bags and medication administration. Contacts parents as necessary.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
