Cornell Bowers CIS is home to more than 200 employees, which includes around 140 faculty. To meet growing student interest in the college's majors and courses, Cornell Bowers CIS is investing in hiring faculty and enhancing its staff infrastructure. This growth will expand the college's impact on higher education, technology, and society.

The Bowers Sponsored Research Administration Center (SRAC) delivers post award research management and planning support to Bowers Principal Investigators conducting interdisciplinary research ($17M annual sponsored expenditures; $11M faculty discretionary funds; $60M central/dept budget total). The typical Bowers PI research profile is collaborative and multi-sponsored.

What You Will Do

The Senior Research Administrator (RA) role oversees sponsor reporting, develops complex financial reports to meet PI/unit needs and sponsor guidelines; and supports central and unit financial management and reporting. The RA manages a designated portfolio of Bowers PI sponsored awards, gifts and other funding, providing comprehensive post-award financial services, sponsored and gift funds management; analysis and reporting; financial accounting; compliance and stewardship of faculty resources. Working across multiple financial systems and software platforms, monitors, interprets, reports and resolves faculty financial issues; RA responsibilities include:

  • Analyze sponsored award and gift requirements, developing financial reports and detailed forecasting to meet PI and unit needs as well as sponsor and compliance requirements
  • Develop project staffing plans and review actual effort, coordinate subcontract administration, provide adhoc reports as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Bowers Finance Advisory team.
  • Develop reports/analyses to support short- and longer-term central Bowers and unit planning.
  • Participate in central Bowers and unit financial management and reporting.

It would be a bonus if you have any of the following:

  • 5-7 years of financial/accounting management and office experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with Cornell policies and procedures in the areas of grant and contract management, accounting, purchasing, and/or accounts payable.

  • This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The position will typically allow for the flexibility to work remotely 2 days per week at a location of employee's choosing within the United States. For the first several months, there is more flexibility to work remotely 4 days week until this role is relocated to new Cornell Bowers CIS building currently under construction. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
