A Brief Overview:
The Clinical Documentation Quality Specialist plays a critical role in our hospital's clinical data management processes, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of clinical documentation. This position is essential for enhancing patient care, supporting effective communication among healthcare teams, and maximizing revenue.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with clinical staff to review and analyze medical records and clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and coding standards.
  • Identify gaps and inconsistencies in clinical documentation and work closely with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to clarify and enhance documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation in the hospital's electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and integrity.
  • Ensure clinical documentation practices adhere to federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, as well as HIPAA privacy standards.
  • Generate and submit timely and accurate clinical reports for quality improvement initiatives, regulatory requirements, and research projects.
  • Provide education and training to clinical staff on the importance of accurate data collection, documentation, and coding to support patient care, billing, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to resolve documentation-related questions, discrepancies, and ambiguities, ensuring accurate and complete documentation.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and security of patient data, complying with HIPAA and other privacy regulations

What you will need:

Education: Bachelors Degree Nursing Required

License: Registered Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Required

Experience: 2 years CDI experience at Acute Care Hospital and 5 years RN experience at Acute Care Hospital

Skills:

  • Strong clinical knowledge and demonstrated commitment to maintaining relevancy in the clinical field.
  • A high level of analytical ability is required.
  • Incumbents must collect and track data to assist the Director in solving problems related to the specific discipline.
  • A high level of communication skills are required to effectively educate others.
  • Effective ability and willingness to communicate benefits of complete and accurate documentation to CDI Specialists and physicians in alignment with the mission of the CDI program.
  • Ability to collaborate with Directors and Leads on clinical documentation Integrity initiatives, effectively tailoring learning and education.
  • Familiarity with IPPS Guidelines, ICD-10-CM and PCS Official Coding Guidelines, Federal CMS Guidelines, State Guidelines, Vizient Risk Models, MSDRG and APRDRG 3M Grouper algorithms and acuity mode
