JOB TITLE:

Assistant Dean of Students - Care and Outreach

JOB PURPOSE:

Assist the Dean of Students in the management, control, evaluation and decision-making within the Dean of Students Office. Works with the Dean of Students to provide a range of services designed to support a variety of student needs, including case management and crisis intervention services, collaboration with internal and external partners, and is a point of contact for issues related to the well-being of students related to mental and physical health, academic concerns, substance use, and interpersonal concerns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides direct services and case management strategies to students enrolled on main campus, distance learners, and at UW-Casper; manage referrals through UW CARES, interprets policies, maintains student records in case management system, and coordinates with internal and external partners. Meets with students regularly to develop individual student success plans based on their unique circumstances and track their progress towards their personal and academic goals.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community stakeholders to streamline support for students who are hospitalized, including Ivinson Behavioral Health Services, law enforcement, VOA, etc.
  • Consults with on and off campus constituents, such as campus University Counseling Center, Residence Life, Disability Support Services, UW-Casper/Casper College staff, faculty, hospital staff, and other community providers to facilitate student referrals to appropriate care and ensures continuity of care.
  • Conducts risk assessment of student situations using NaBITA risk assessment tools; follows protocol and policies to address students of concern; communicates and facilitates care coordination with campus partners and student- identified emergency contacts regarding student distress/crisis situations.
  • Assists in the coordination efforts to support students and the campus community when distressing campus events occur; serve as a point person for communication about prevention, intervention, postvention.
  • Establishes assessment and evaluation procedures for case management activities to determine effectiveness, and implements corrective action as required for improvement; creates end-of-year reports; aligns practices with evidence-based standards.
  • Serves as a member of the University CARES team; coordinates weekly case agenda.
  • Supervises two Care and Outreach Coordinators and part-time staff (interns/graduate assistants); evaluates staffing needs; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves and/or disapproves requests for leaves; conducts annual assessment; recommends and provides staff development opportunities.
  • Manages development and distribution of well being related marketing materials and outreach for program area and UW CARES referrals (e.g. website, outreach events, posters, etc.).
  • Serves on assigned University committees and community groups (e.g. COPPSA, A-Team) and participates in professional associations relevant to job duties (e.g. Higher Education Case Managers Association, NaBITA); maintains certification and training on best practices and risk rubrics.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepare budget reports/recommendations; participate in budget analyses and preparation and unit planning by establishing project goals and objectives.
  • Represent the Dean at university executive-level meetings and committees in his/her absence.
  • Assist with after-hours crisis calls, in a consultation role, to assist Residence Life and/or UWPD in absence of the Dean.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's degree in from an accredited institution in Counseling, Psychology, Education, Social Work, Student Affairs Administration or related field

Experience: 5 years work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: None

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of emotional and mental health issues affecting post-secondary students. Experience with mental health crisis management activities in a consultation or direct service role.
  • General knowledge of and a commitment to follow state and federal laws and standards impacting post-secondary students and mental health crisis, including confidentiality, FERPA, Title IX.
  • Experience in crisis management, case management, counseling, guidance and/or advising.
  • LSW, LCSW, LPC, LCPC and LMFT
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, planning, reasoning, organizational, and project management skills, with an ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software/databases.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.
