Position Announcement

Work as an advisor for students interested in pursuing undergraduate degrees in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences, as well as fulfilling general education requirements. This position will be supervised by the Dean of the College and the Director of College Advisement and will interface closely with the Advisement Office on degree requirements, student success, academic planning, etc. Information about the College of Humanities & Social Sciences departments, its programs, degrees, etc., can be found online at https://colleges.utahtech.edu/humanities/.


Responsibilities

  • Advise students for undergraduate College of Humanities & Social Sciences programs.
  • Work with College of Humanities & Social Sciences and the University Advising Center to assist students with applications for graduation, process financial aid audits, conduct and prepare degree audit contracts in preparation for graduation.
  • Manage a caseload of College of Humanities & Social Sciences students in multiple programs and advise them on General Education, undergraduate and post-graduate opportunities. Interact with students with academic standing issues and assist them with resources, etc.
  • Maintain regular office hours and attend faculty and advisement meetings.
  • Represent advisement in Utah Tech University (UT) promotional and freshman events, including freshman orientation, first-year experience courses, and presentations in local high schools.
  • Refer students to other agencies for assistance, such as Financial Aid, Disability Resource Center, TRiO Program, Health & Wellness Center, Community Outreach programs, etc.
  • Participate in retention initiatives and campaigns under direction of the University Advising Center.
  • Attend professional development opportunities for advisement and serve on various university committees.
  • Assist with the commencement and convocation programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • Two years of advising or related experience required; higher education advisement experience preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills; willingness to learn new systems.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relation skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with University stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with college admissions guidelines, standards, and procedures, and higher education admissions counseling in general.
  • Familiarity with requirements for programs within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences preferred.
  • Background must show ability to positively relate to multi-cultural students, first-generation students, non-traditional students, and students in transition.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $44,000 for bachelor's degree qualified applicant, and $47,000 for master's degree qualified applicant. Desired start date of April/May 2025.
