Basic Function

This position is responsible for the design, integration and execution of the environmental functional activities for the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene Joint Venture in Westlake, LA. This position provides leadership and direction to the Environmental Organization, works with the Site Management to meet business requirements while maintaining environmental compliance. In addition, this position will sponsor and/or lead multi-functional teams chartered to improve site performance and may be a resource to the site's Leadership Team for the local Community outreach Environmental Justice.

This position reports to the site HSE & Training Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Maintains a working knowledge of the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene JV environmental requirements and production processes.
  • Maintains good knowledge and relationship of the site's integration with joint venture partner.
  • Develops and recommends appropriate environmental strategies and environmental systems to meet business results, continuously improve performance, and to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Interacts with other departments including Operations, Technical, Maintenance & Reliability, Corporate, and Legal to ensure that environmental systems are in place, practices are consistent with other company sites, and required external reports and communications are completed.
  • Maintains environmental management and audits these systems to verify they meet corporate requirements.
  • Tracks environmental action items and environmental related projects to ensure they are progressing per schedule and that required changes are being made.
  • Represents the site with environmental regulatory agencies and environmental justice organizations.
  • Coordinates and implements company environmental policies and initiatives.
  • Participates in Trade Associations and networks with other industry representatives to optimize compliance strategies.
  • Manages environmental consultants to ensure services are commensurate with agreed work.
  • Sets performance recommendations for employees, recommends employee development, and works through human resources to hire new environmental employees as needed.
  • Manages the environmental budgets and cost centers.
  • Leads and supervises the environmental team at the site.
  • May supervise environmental contract support personnel.
  • Becomes the site's champion for OE (Operational Excellence), ISO (International Organization for Standardization), ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) & Sustainability related to environmental disciplines.
  • Participates in OE audits or other relevant audits at different sites.


Min. Qualifications

Education:



  • A BS or MS In engineering, relevant sciences or specific environmental discipline


Experience:



  • Minimum 10 years environmental experience in petrochemical manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of the environmental regulatory process
  • Experience representing a company to the regulatory agencies
  • 3+ years of previous supervisory experience
