Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking a vehicle energy efficiency development engineer at our Superior Township facility in Michigan, located near Ann Arbor. This position will support HATCI's vehicle energy efficiency development efforts. Vehicle energy efficiency engineers are responsible for vehicle on-road and on-dyno testing, simulation, data analysis, benchmarking, identification of industry trends, and developing strategies for improving vehicle energy efficiency. Core Responsibilities:
- Test and validate development vehicle fuel economy according to EPA test procedures for internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles
- Establish and support targets for vehicle energy efficiency (MPG, MPGe, all-electric range) through testing and analysis of current and future vehicles
- Benchmark key competitive vehicles and related propulsion system technologies
- Analyze competitive data sets and assess future trends in passenger vehicle fuel economy and energy efficiency-related technologies
- Develop and maintain efficiency test procedures for ICE and HEVs.
- Simulate vehicle energy flows, losses and road loads
- Collaborate with and support the global R&D headquarters team in South Korea
Core Capabilities:
- Familiarity with EPA greenhouse gas emissions standards for passenger cars and light trucks, including corporate average fuel economy and GHG credits
- Experience and detailed understanding of vehicle propulsion systems, including internal combustion engine, hybrid, and PHEV configurations
- Proven understanding of conventional, hybrid and electric vehicle energy flows, including drive energy, energy losses (friction, aerodynamic, etc.), thermal loads, and energy conversion efficiency
- Working level knowledge of vehicle testing tools such as ETAS INCA (or equiv.) and CAN bus monitoring applications such as Vector CANalyzer (or equiv.)
- Working level knowledge of MATLAB for data analysis and graphing
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related engineering degree from an accredited university. (Master's degree preferred)
- 5+ years of experience with these Responsibilities and Capabilities. (7+ years preferred)
- Experience in completing the Core Responsibilities and Core Capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with peers, management, and executive staff
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
- Able to work in a culturally diverse team environment and in harsh climate conditions (Winter -40F, Summer +120F, altitude up to 14,000 ft)
- Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 10%)
