A Brief Overview Provides lactation support services to patients. Adheres to regulatory standards, departmental and hospital policies and procedures in the execution of assigned duties. Maintains and models CHOP values and service standards in the execution of all assigned duties.
What you will do
- Patient Care
- Instructs patients (and/or families, as appropriate) on lactation supplies, human milk storage and transport guidelines. Refers for inpatient/outpatient lactation consultation follow-up as necessary.
- Is knowledgeable regarding lactation content
- Human Milk Inventory and Rental Program Management
- Inputs data from physical contents of human milk freezers into Human Milk Inventory Report. Maintains updates and enters new items.
- Participates in departmental educational events as requested.
- Participates in lactation education of the surrounding community (health fairs, school assemblies) as requested
- Responsible for organizing and coordinating rental program for Lactation Services
- Responsible for organizing and coordinating insurance "stock and bill" pump equipment inventory
- Responsible for assisting families in coordinating safe transportation of human milk
- Responsible for organizing and coordinating reunification of human milk with discharged patients
- Business Functions
- Maintains friendly, efficient demeanor and models CHOP ICARE Values and Service Standards.
- Participates in ongoing quality assurance and performance improvement activities as requested.
- Maintains productivity, screening and other documentation of activities as requested.
- Assists in training other employees as requested.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Professional Development
- Participates in any department staff meetings and education programs as requested.
- Maintains competence and professional development. Maintains registration as required. Uses reference materials, trends in dietetics and research to enhance clinical knowledge.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Education Qualifications
- Associate's Degree Nutrition or similar field of study Required
- Bachelor's Degree Nutrition or similar field of study Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Prior work experience in a hospital setting or WIC program Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to patients and families, public, medical staff and physicians. (Required proficiency)
- Must be able to read English with understanding and write English legibly. (Required proficiency)
- Basic knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy in pediatric patients. (Required proficiency)
- Basic knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to perform increasingly complex mathematical calculations such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and metric measures. (Required proficiency)
- Computer proficiency required. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Dietetic Technician-Registered (DTR) - Commission on Dietetic Registration - - Preferred
