Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. Nokia Bell Labs NAR (Network Architecture Research) Lab drives innovations across multiple network layers and across all network segments, including access, metro, transport, and data centers. The research is expected to identify new opportunities for monetization, sustainability, performance improvement, and our customers' total-cost-of-ownership optimization. We are looking for a strong and enthusiastic candidate to join the world-renowned lab. As part of our team, you will:
- Develop and define novel network architecture solutions through in-depth knowledge of mobile networks as well as their cross-domain enhancements and impact.
- Pro-actively identify emerging architecture and technology trends, translate these into research projects and lead disruptive research topics to drive mobile network architecture innovation (including but not limited to 6G and beyond, Cloud-native RAN, ORAN, AI RAN, IoT, automation, etc.)
- Lead effective transfers to business groups and standards and contribute to strategy definitions through strong capabilities for synthesis and creating abstract high-level architectural concepts from details while also identifying and prioritizing essential architectural details that need to be addressed.
- Protect the generated intellectual property with patents, contribute to the implementation of patents in standards, review inventions from others as well as disseminate the key disruptions to internal and external audiences.
- Define frameworks for the advancement of evaluation methodologies and network models and develop proof of concepts to validate and examine new network architecture models.
You have:
- PhD degree or a MSc degree with a minimum of seven years of experience in an industrial research center in a relevant engineering field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from a leading college/university, plus practical experience from working for network vendors and/or network or cloud operators..
- Ability to work autonomously to lead complex research issues in collaboration with other researchers and to drive an effective transfer of concepts and solutions to business groups and/or standards, including the ability to visualize and present complex architectures to senior management and customers.
- Visionary thinking and interest in research beyond current product constraints
- Deep expert domain knowledge in mobile networks standards (3GPP, ORAN) and product implementations in 4G/5G/6G RAN and Core networks.

- Very strong analytical skills and eager to find innovative/disruptive solutions to problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

- Fundamental and practical cross-domain knowledge in Transport, Operations, Automation, Exposure and Cloud Technologies.
