Senior Enterprise Applications Engineer

The Sr. Enterprise Application Engineer will serve as an application support subject matter expert (SME) and is responsible for the deployment and ongoing support of complex network systems management and network testing applications and solutions. To successfully perform these responsibilities, the candidate must have an expert level of working knowledge in database management, Linux and Windows operating systems, and at least one programming language. Also, in preparation for a transition to a highly automated setting, he/she will be responsible for ensuring all supported applications have proactive monitoring configured with such standard platforms as New Relic, Elastic, or Big Panda. Basic scripting skills will also be needed to automate traditionally routine requests, such as addressing security vulnerabilities, patching of the applications and systems, and executing basic OS-related tasks. Good level of knowledge in DevOps methodology is critical to ensure that any technology debt is kept close to zero.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Configures, optimizes, documents, and supports complex vendor or internally developed software tools that serve as on overlay of the various Cox Engineering networks.
  • Supports and troubleshoots the scalability, high availability, performance, and monitoring of production environments, providing backup and platform restoration as necessary.
  • Works with engineers and QA to ensure that issues are resolved, and fixes are deployed in a timely fashion.
  • Creates and maintains appropriate deployment-specific support documentation, ensuring distribution as warranted.
  • Ensures issues are tracked appropriately in ticket management systems such as JIRA, Service Now, and UET.
  • Integrates proactive monitoring with standard tools and identifies additional monitoring needed to improve system uptime.
  • Collaborates with various vendors and Cox development teams to provide a stable and secure environment with improved speed to market.
  • Maintains disciplined Incident and Change Management procedures for all assigned environments and supporting tools.
  • Develops and maintains tools and training materials for support team members, including peer teams and NOC personnel.
  • Performs server OS and Platform patches / upgrades as required for security compliance requirements.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities for supported solutions and makes strategic recommendations to leadership as necessary.
  • Maintains active and open lines of communication with leaders, practitioners, and end users to ensure all parties are informed of what is provided, how it operates, and what is needed.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 4 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 2 years' experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 16 years' experience in a related field.
  • Experience with networking technologies, database technologies, and systems monitoring tools and practices
  • Experience in understanding connectivity between network devices and troubleshooting complex enterprise network architectures
  • Experience working in virtual machine environments, such as VMWare
  • Experience in Linux and open-source applications and deployment of distributed architectures and infrastructure
  • Experience in designing and deploying complex service provider network orchestration tools
  • Experience and strong scripting skills in at least one of the following languages: Python, Shell, SQL, or NETCONF/YAML
  • Experience in developing sophisticated system monitoring techniques by leveraging NewRelic, Splunk and other such monitoring tools
  • Experience deploying and supporting Kafka
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS and MS Azure
  • Experience with microservices and container-based virtualization (Containerization) like Docker or Kubernetes


Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge in automation platforms as Ansible, Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, and JFrog Artifactory
  • Deep understanding of virtual machine environments, such as VMWare. Experience in deploying and supporting vendor-developed network management systems such as Nokia NFM-P / NSP OS, Accedian Skylight Orchestrator.
  • Expert-level knowledge in proactive monitoring various Kafka streams
  • Strong understanding of the DevOps methodology
  • Experience in maintaining strong security level on Linux and MS Windows environments
  • Previous experience with deploying Kubernetes containerization technology, managed by Rancher or GKE Anthos overlay orchestrators
  • Previous experience in automating software deployments
  • Established understanding in Cox internal security domain tools such as SecureLens, Rapid7, and Prisma
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced working environment and meet short project deadlines


USD 90,100.00 - 150,100.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $90,100.00 - $150,100.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
