The Position

The Financial Aid Processing Specialist provides comprehensive guidance and support to students and families regarding financial aid options. This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including general financial aid knowledge dissemination, processing of federal and state aid, FAFSA updates, and Return of Title IV calculations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of financial aid regulations and procedures, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student success.

Staff Duration: Full Time 12 months


What You Will Do

  1. Provide accurate and timely information to students and families regarding all aspects of financial aid, including federal, state, and institutional aid programs, eligibility requirements, application procedures, and award packaging.
  2. Counsel students and families on financial planning, budgeting, and debt management.
  3. Process federal financial aid applications (FAFSA), including verification, awarding, and disbursement of funds.
  4. Manage all aspects of state grant programs, ensuring compliance with state regulations and deadlines. This includes application processing, award notification, and reconciliation.
  5. Perform daily federal processing tasks, including but not limited to, loading FAFSA into the system, resolving conflicting information, tracking student eligibility.
  6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
  7. Perform Return of Title IV calculations and ensure compliance with regulations.
  8. Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless delivery of student services.
  9. Participate in professional development activities to stay current on financial aid regulations and best practices.
  10. Maintain accurate and organized student records.
  11. Other related projects and duties as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Must Have

  1. Associate's Degree with four (4) years of experience in higher education, preferably in financial aid.
  2. In lieu of full experience requirement, a Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience in higher education, preferably in financial aid.
  3. In-depth knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, including Title IV.
  4. Experience with FAFSA processing, verification, and awarding.
  5. Experience with state grant programs.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems (e.g., Ellucian Colleague).
  7. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  9. Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  11. Commitment to providing excellent customer service to students.
  12. Ability to work a flexible schedule as the role will require working late nights on occasion.

  1. Experience with Ellucian Colleague.
  2. Certification in Return of Title IV Processing
