Associate Director of Development, Home Base Arizona

The Associate Director is responsible for the management and growth of a fundraising program, which consists of the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, corporate and community supporters in Arizona and the Southwest area, along with highly visible events, for Home Base. This position is based in Arizona with a specific focus on the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.
Home Base is a philanthropic partnership between the Red Sox Foundation and Mass General Hospital to provide clinical and support services to veterans, service members and their families impacted by post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries and/or combat-related stress disorders. Working under the direction of the Managing Director of Development for Home Base and the Regional Associate Director, Home Base Arizona, Southwest & Tribal Relations, the Associate Director is responsible for securing support for Home Base's Arizona Operations, with a focus on unrestricted support. The Associate Director will work in close collaboration with the Home Base Arizona and the Boston-based Development teams, key volunteers and with colleagues in various areas in the department and the hospital.
Frontline Fundraising
*Build and actively manage a portfolio of prospects and donors with an average giving capacity of $50K or higher, with the goal of raising about $1 million annually via individual and corporate giving. This includes formulate and document appropriate development strategies, follow agreed upon targets for prospect activity and fundraising outcomes, implement moves management, and fully document work in Blackbaud CRM.
*Successfully solicit and close gifts (outright, life income, bequests, and gifts of assets) working with Home Base leadership, as appropriate.
*Work with prospects and donors to develop and enhance their relationship to and connection with Home Base, ultimately leveraging that relationship to maximize philanthropic giving with a focus on unrestricted support for Home Base's Arizona programs.
*Create and maintain a menu of giving opportunities and write case statements and proposals as needed.
*Seek out and advance higher level philanthropic opportunities.
*Working with the Managing Director and Regional Associate Director, manage relationships with key Home Base Arizona volunteers.
*Partner with volunteers to manage and recruit new prospects with the goal of developing and leveraging individual relationships to expand the philanthropic network.
*Facilitate regular meetings with volunteers and handle all logistics related to these meetings.
*Identify and recruit appropriate members to assigned philanthropic volunteer programs.
*Partner with the team and the Corporate and Foundation Relations program to build a pipeline for corporate and foundation support for the Arizona programs.
*Work toward the successful attainment of individual and team fundraising goals, following approved development plans.
*Work in close collaboration with the Managing Director to manage the strategy for assigned volunteer groups, councils, and committees.
Event Fundraising
*Manage the planning, implementation and execution of several diverse fundraising events, partnering with Development and Arizona colleagues.
*Partner with the Senior Director, Signature Events and other colleagues on the implementation of cultivation events.
*Collaborate with Special Events, Community Fundraising, Corporate and Foundation Relations and other Development programs to manage the following responsibilities:
oManage and solicit corporate sponsorships for the programs within portfolio, including working with volunteers and Development staff to develop a strategic plan for corporate outreach for community events.
oManage event details including scheduling, timelines, budgets, site selection, program development, travel itineraries, and on-site logistics.
oWork closely with Home Base Development staff to develop criteria for event guest lists and manage the process to create the list and mailings.
oManage event committees including members' communications, organize and attend meetings, and follow up.
oSecure and manage external vendors following institutional policies and procedures, including rate and budget negotiations; work with Development Operations to manage contracts and appropriate payment methods for services or goods provided by the vendors.
oWork with the Interactive Solutions team to manage the online presence for the programs; assist with creating content.
oWork closely with the Home Base Events team to develop, promote and cultivate an active community fundraising plan, including a stewardship strategy for organizers.
oManage a system to accurately track funds raised for events and project future revenue.
oDevelop an outreach to past organizers and ensure proper follow up.
Marketing
*Serve as the liaison with the Home Base Communications and Marketing team for special marketing projects and local social media.
*Recommend strategic activities/collateral for assigned fundraising program (s) with minimal guidance from supervisor.
*Work collaboratively with all development units around support, promotion and execution of program events.
*Prepare and regularly update progress reports.
*Take on other duties at the request of Development leadership.
*Adhere to the mission, credo, and standards of behavior of Mass General Hospital.
*Travel as necessary for prospect meetings, conferences, and events.

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience, required. The successful candidate will have the ability to motivate, engage, and work both independently and collaboratively at all levels with prospects, donors, volunteers, leadership and senior members of the staff, or similar constituencies. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, abilities and attributes:

  • Proven professional growth, preferably in an academic medical center or university.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Volunteer engagement and management experience, strongly preferred.
  • Able to work remotely and/or at touchdown space with the other Arizona Home Base staff.
  • Able to provide own mode of transportation.
  • Able to travel to Boston, as needed, for meetings within the Development office including orientation, all-staff meetings, and others, as requested.
  • Knowledge of the Arizona, Southwest and Tribal communities.
  • Able to motivate and engage prospects, donors, volunteers and faculty, or similar constituencies.
  • Able to work collaboratively and interact effectively and politely with diverse audiences, and to handle difficult situations with grace and a sense of humor.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to evaluate problems and display sound, confidential judgment.
  • Honest, trustworthy, and willing to abide by strict confidentiality guidelines.
  • Entrepreneurial, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented, with a strong work ethic and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Motivated to learn and flexible in a changing environment.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
