Title:Director of Advising Division: Provost's Office Department: University Division FLSA Status:Exempt Salary Range:Annual Salary EEO Job Group:1.2 C2 Position Summary The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications forDirector of Advising, Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education. The Director of Advising will administer the academic advising program for Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education students which includes establishing goals, priorities, strategies and procedures for the college advising center. The Director will oversee the college advising assessment program and graduation checkouts andmaintain a load of academic advisees, with particular emphasis on first-year, special population, and at-risk students. Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead the academic advising program for the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education. Coordinate advising staff assignments and schedules in conjunction with the College's Dean and the Executive Director of Academic Success.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the advising center, including recruiting, hiring, training, monitoring, and evaluating all staff and advising fellows in the advising center.
- Provide individual and group advising, both during the major advising periods and throughout the semester.
- Coordinate retention efforts for the college including tracking retention and graduation rates for the college.
- Create and implement new advising strategies using predictive analytics and other advising software.
- Lead the college advising assessment program and prepare assessment reports. Collect data such as student usage, student surveys, retention data, advisor performance, and center effectiveness.
- Coordinate the First Year Experience courses for the College when applicable.
- Direct the graduation application/checkout process for the college when applicable.
- Organize and lead advisory development programs for faculty and staff with advising responsibilities within the College.
- Advise students, maintain student records, monitor student progress, and make appropriate student referrals.
- Coordinate and participate in the college sessions at Open Houses and other University recruitment events.
- Keep current with University policies, procedures, and curriculum changes.
- Communicate regularly with other advising units on campus and work to promote academic advising as an essential part of the academic experience campus wide.
- Work with other University advising centers to meet the advising needs of special population students, including adult learners, student athletes, veterans, students with disabilities, and international students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Master's degree in counseling, college student services or a related field.
- Three years' experience in academic advising and/or advising administration with increasing responsibilities at the college level.
- Knowledge of NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) Core Values, CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards) professional standards, and Federal guidelines affecting students and faculty (i.e., FERPA), background to facilitate in-depth review necessary for programmatic changes; progressive managerial and administrative background relating to programs and services to students.
- Extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies and regulations as well as interpretation and solutions to unique student situations as well as input for revising current policies.
- Ability to present information in a public setting.
- Must possess strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of computers, internet, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and email software.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills Experience working with a student information system (e.g. SIS or BANNER).
