KIPP Capital Region is excited to open the first co-ed high school in the region during the Fall of 2025 to approximately 350 students with the goal of growing to 800 students by its year four.

Job Description

College and Career Access Knowledge and Skills

  • Advise and coach all students on postsecondary program planning (wishlist, letters of recommendations, financial aid, career exploration, summer enrichment opportunities, etc.) through classroom instruction and regular one-on-one advising sessions, focusing on strong and strategic postsecondary program match and plans

  • Create access to college & career resources and opportunities to support underrepresented populations.

  • Lead family engagement workshops focused on college admissions, financial aid, career and post-secondary options.

  • Provide families with an introduction to the College Match and Career Exploration processes, including required one-on-ones each semester.

  • Conduct graduation eligibility audit with all students and support with Course Advising process to ensure students are on-track to meet graduation requirements

  • Provide training to grade teachers and advisors on how to support students in the college application process, including writing a letter of recommendation

  • Attend all Grade College Counseling meetings and professional development workshops

Team Player

  • Work effectively with KIPP Forward regional staff, including the KIPP Forward Regional Managing Director, Director of Post-Secondary Opportunities, Manager of Postsecondary Support & Strategic Partnerships, and Manager of Post-Secondary Support & Persistence.

  • Maintain a collaborative team with consistent communication flow to all key stakeholders and teammates.

  • Responsible for supporting KIPP juniors and seniors through lesson planning, lesson execution, and classroom management.

  • Plan, organize, and implement an appropriate college knowledge and career success program in a high school learning environment, both in an in-person classroom setting and virtually, that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and socio-emotional potential.

  • Participate in and effectively prepare for weekly one-on-one check-ins with the Director of Post-Secondary Opportunities

Data Management

  • Utilize various student management platforms to track, monitor progress, and submit student data, including, but not limited to, Overgrad, Google Suite, Excel, KIPP Foundation approved tools, etc.

  • Progress monitors all KIPP Forward post-secondary access goals, including (but not limited to) completion of student and family one-on-ones, applications (including wish list finalization, essay completion, transcript submission, ED campaign), and FAFSA. career integration (including YouScience, major selection, internship opportunities), and decision phase (including financial fit, major/career fit, socio-emotional fit, etc.).

  • Work with KIPP Forward staff to ensure student data is properly in our Alumni Database (Salesforce).

Teaching College Seminar

  • Act as principal instructor for junior and senior Seminar classes.

  • Assist in developing curriculum and a scope and sequence for junior and senior seminar lesson plans and assessments.

  • Teach junior/senior seminar class, a college readiness course focusing on the career planning, college application and matriculation process.

  • Ensure that students are on-track and up to date for all deliverables associated with the junior or senior Seminar classes that will prepare them for application or matriculation.

  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive culture within the classroom.

  • Maintain an active gradebook that ensures that students are on-track to pass the class.

  • Oversee a comprehensive college/career transition program through the College Seminar class that addresses the academic, social, and emotional needs of our KIPP high school juniors/seniors.

  • Act as a role model for the students by adhering to all the schoolwide expectations outlined by school leadership (i.e. Principal & the Director of Operations).

  • Provide students daily feedback on mastery performance in character and academics and plan for individual learning needs.

  • Support school initiatives (as needed) and act as a member of the high school community.

Spring Execution Events

  • Support college counseling department special programming, including college visits (overnight or day), financial aid nights, college fairs, college knowledge 101 workshops, and wish list approval

nights.

  • Manage planning and execution of junior transition events. This includes but is not limited to the following:

    • List Meetings

    • Counseling on Personal Statements

    • Junior Family Night

    • FAFSA Events

  • Manage planning and execution of senior transition events. This includes but is not limited to the following:

    • Senior Family Night

    • FAFSA Events

    • Case Management for FAFSA, Applications, and anything related to post-secondary matriculation

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of team events as necessary. (e.g. SAT Hype Event)

KIPP Capital Region

  • Perform other duties as outlined by School Leadership.

  • Create and disseminate information and resources for teacher PD on writing excellent teacher recommendations and coordinate teacher recommendation submissions.

  • Actively research all aspects of college placement: financial aid, scholarships, applications, and admissions standards.

  • Actively participate in professional development, faculty meetings before or after school, and grade level, department, and trip meetings.

  • Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

  • Adheres to organization policies and procedures; promotes and supports mission, vision, and values, including developing and participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University, required
  • Valid NYS Teaching Licensure or willingness to pursue state certification, required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment, preferred
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our grade salary scale at point of hire.
