Job Summary:

This position is responsible for taking care of the floors of university buildings. Moderately heavy physical effort is required for some tasks such as floor scrubbing, emptying rubbish containers, moving furniture and equipment, etc. Occasional unscheduled overtime may be required for snow removal and/or emergency cleanup. Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor.


Responsibilities:
Cleans and maintains floors to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas.

  • 30% Cleans floors by vacuuming, buffing, stripping, and waxing assigned areas
  • 30% Extracts carpet and furniture according to institutional standards
  • 10% Maintains clean and clear building interiors to ensure they are free of debris and litter
  • 10% Inspects, maintains, operates, and repairs equipment to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • 5% Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
  • 5% Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • 5% Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • 5% Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice

Work Schedule:

We have multiple vacancies on 2nd Shift: Monday- Friday, 5:00pm- 1:30am, 30 minute unpaid break each day.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $18.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
The salary is $18 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance, tax-advantaged savings accounts, and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund. -Plus an additional $2.50 per hour for night hours worked (6pm-6am).
-Plus an additional $0.80 per hour for weekend hours worked
-Plus Time and a half per hour for hours worked on designated legal holidays.

Current UW-Madison employees may be eligible to be hired up to their current rate of compensation based on qualifications.


Additional Information:

Some of these positions may require the ability to speak, read, and understand verbal instructions in English.

This position may require working in or around animal facilities on campus. Those working in or around animal facilities are required to complete an annual safety training and personnel medical evaluation form to gain clearance. Some areas have additional requirements for entry, including a TB test with negative results and measles titer test. We will provide trainings that will address hazards as well as how to safely perform job duties by, for example, following signage and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
