The position is essential for ensuring that the park remains a beautiful and well-maintained environment for visitors to enjoy.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, the employee engages in semi-skilled tasks independently or provides support to a skilled worker in carrying out routine maintenance and construction activities within a State Park. Responsibilities include repairing buildings and facilities by utilizing tools from various trades such as carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing to ensure effective maintenance. The position involves constructing basic forms for concrete work with carpentry tools, mixing and applying cement, finishing surfaces with masonry tools, and building stone and block walls. Ground maintenance duties include mowing or trimming grass and weeds with various equipment, cutting firewood, collecting litter and sorting recyclable materials, as well as loading and transporting materials using dump trucks or pickup trucks. Additional tasks encompass cleaning grills, sweeping paved areas, digging holes and ditches, and maintaining drainage systems. The employee is also responsible for site preparation, seeding new turf areas, and planting and caring for trees and shrubs. Painting and staining park structures, signs, and gates are also part of the job.

The employee ensures thorough housekeeping and maintenance of buildings by cleaning and restocking restrooms, pit latrines, offices, pavilions, and other facilities, while also performing minor repairs such as changing light bulbs and tightening fixtures. A critical aspect of the role is the safe and proper operation of all equipment, power tools, and hand tools. The employee assists park visitors by providing information in a courteous and helpful manner, completes necessary documentation such as daily logs, automotive mileage records, fuel dispensing logs, and leave requests, and operates a two-way radio following established protocols.
