Job Summary:

This is a vital support role to the UW Veterinary Care Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) service! Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient care in the hospital's busy ER service. Make a difference in the lives of both patients and clients!


Responsibilities:
Provides assistance during veterinary examinations and procedures, performs daily animal care duties, and maintains facility and inventory to ensure attainment of organization goals.

  • 20% Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
  • 20% Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment
  • 10% Inventories and organizes supplies
  • 15% Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing
  • 15% Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans
  • 10% Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities
  • 10% Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions


Tasks:

  • Take client phone calls and use communicated information to triage patients appropriately
  • Assist with patient intake and discharge from the ER service
  • Communicate appropriately with clients, staff, and clinicians vital information regarding patients and ER operations
  • Work variable, on call shifts as required by the unit and the hospital

Education:

Preferred
H.S. Diploma


Qualifications:

Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic animal handling skills
- Knowledge of good client-relation principles
- Ability to follow written and verbal rules and instructions accurately
- Experience in veterinary hospital setting or referral practice with animal handling experience preferred


Work Schedule:

UW Veterinary Care Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) has a variety of shifts available, schedule will be determined based on unit need.

Will include holiday and weekend shifts. Potential for additional on-call hours as required by the hospital.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $19.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
Sign-on Bonus of 3-5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment!
