Job Overview

A full time clinical research professional position is available in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Clinical Research Professional or Sr Clinical Research Professional to join our research team. The final staff title (CRP or Sr CRP) will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications. This position will support a clinical research project focused on understanding the impact of extreme heat exposure on heat-related illness (HRI) and immune response in vulnerable populations, including firefighters and elderly residents. This role is integral to the success of a study addressing the health risks posed by climate change and extreme temperatures, contributing to the development of personalized strategies for HRI risk management. This position is expected to be a hybrid position.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and oversee day-to-day research activities, ensuring all aspects of the project are executed smoothly and on schedule.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for study participants, including firefighters participating in live burn training and elderly individuals from neighborhoods at risk for extreme heat exposure.
  • Manage participant visits, including the collection of biometric data (e.g., core body temperature, heart rate, heart rate variability), administration of surveys, and collection of nasal swab and blood samples.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of study data, ensuring adherence to research protocols, IRB requirements, and data privacy standards.
  • Coordinate with community organizations and external stakeholders to facilitate participant recruitment and data collection efforts.
  • Manage data entry, quality control, and preliminary analysis, including biometric data from wearable devices and sensors.
  • Prepare and update study-related documentation, such as informed consent forms, protocols, and IRB submissions.
  • Work closely with UC and UC Health offices in negotiation of contracts, confidentiality agreements and amendments related to the conduct of research activities.
  • Assist in the management of samples for RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for study participants, research team members, and external partners to ensure clear communication and project progress.

Minimum Requirements

Clinical Research Professional:

Required Education



  • Bachelor's degree in public health, biology, nursing, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.


Required Experience

One (1) year of experience in research coordinator in clinical or community-based studies.

Senior Clinical Research Professional:

Required Education



  • Bachelor's degree in public health, biology, nursing, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.


Required Experience

Three (3) years of experience in research coordination in clinical or community-based studies.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Master's degree.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience in participant recruitment and engagement.
  • Proficiency in data management software (e.g., REDCap, Excel) and familiarity with wearable technology data.
  • Experience in collecting biological samples (e.g., nasal swabs, blood) is ideal, with training available as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
  • Strong commitment to data confidentiality and ethical research practices.
