The Business Development Analyst's primary responsibilities are to provide analytical support to Business Development Executive and Managers that aid in the creation of strategies and achievement of business objectives for assigned clients, prospects, and brokers. The Business Development Analyst participates in the strategy development process, particularly in-depth financial analysis and research that enriches the output. Other activities may include preparation of internal/external meeting and presentation materials; communicating relevant information to cross functional areas and other stakeholders; monitoring and reporting on the KPIs, sales pipeline and work on special initiatives.

Core accountabilities include:

  • Analyze, interpret, and report on broker, client, and prospect's public and non-public information, including but not limited to business plans, financial statements, annual reports, 10-K/Q, MD&A commentary, earnings calls and rating analyst reports.
  • Prepare detailed client, broker and prospect analyses to assist and support the Business Development Managers in developing strategies, key initiatives and sales pipeline for all assigned brokers, clients, and prospects. Assist with analysis to understand reinsurance buying motivation and products purchased to aid in development of strategic approach with client and broker markets.
  • Compile, analyze and communicate key findings and trends of all broker and client internal business KPIs, to assist Business Development Executive and Managers to understand strategic intent and positioning.
  • Prepare detailed competitor analyses. Explore competitor vulnerabilities to assist in the design, development, and execution of action steps to profitably grow existing clients' books of business and capture new books of business from brokers.
  • Interact with other MRG units to stay apprised of newly developed solutions that could meet the needs and motivations of brokers, clients, and prospects.
  • Develop and prepare materials for internal and external meetings.
  • Manage assigned projects.
  • Participate in broker, client, and prospect visits and interact with brokers/clients/prospects as appropriate at the direction of the Business Development Manager.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a focus in Finance, Accounting, Business and/or equivalent work experience; MBA a plus
  • 3+ years of Insurance and/or Reinsurance experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of insurance and reinsurance principles and procedures
  • Strong financial analysis and problem solving skills; familiarity with accounting (GAAP/STAT), finance, underwriting and actuarial concepts as well as SEC publications, financial statements, AMBest rating reports/ methodology and BCAR a plus
  • Demonstrated mastery of Excel, strong working knowledge of other Microsoft products and ability to manage large amounts of disparate information from unrelated sources
  • Ability and Willingness to learn new systems. Experience with Munich Re internal financial systems and reports, and external industry data sources such as AMBest and SNL a plus.
  • Sales, marketing, negotiating, and/or presentation skills/experience a strong plus
  • Exceptionally strong project management skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Team player and strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial spirit and strategic thinker
  • Committed to self-development through internal/external educational offerings on a broad range of topics; interest in achieving industry designations (CPCU, Are, CFA)
  • Willingness to do limited travel (about 15% to 30% )
