POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to: Director of Global Sales

If you excel in client relationships, possess strong sales and communication skills, this opportunity may be for you. As our Global Sales Manager, you'll cultivate key stakeholder relationships, stay abreast of industry trends, and drive international business for the city.

You will be a vital member of a close-knit and dynamic Global Sales Team, apart of the Convention Sales and Services Department. You are responsible for securing international business events (MICE programs: meetings, incentive travel, conventions/conferences and exhibitions) for Washington, DC and the greater Washington region. You are familiar with the global business events landscape and will leverage your experience in this sales-focused and customer-facing role to book meetings, drive economic development and improve social impact to the District.

As our Global Sales Manager, You will handle the full sales cycle for assigned markets which includes prospecting, sourcing, pitching and closing lead opportunities. You actively participate in destination promotion which includes the creation of sales communication, collateral and presentations for the purpose of lead generation. You also work alongside the Director of Global Sales to grow the Destination DC Ambassador Circle by engaging stakeholders and clients within strategic industry sectors.

Your Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)

A day in the life as our Global Sales Manager...



  1. Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships through consistent communication and proactive account management.
  2. Lead Generation & Conversion: Actively seek and pursue new business opportunities, including prospecting, pitching, and closing deals for international meetings and conventions.
  3. Sales & Marketing Initiatives: Develop and execute sales campaigns, create compelling presentations, and participate in industry events to promote Washington D.C. as a premier destination.
  4. Bid Process Support: Play a key role in securing international association congresses by researching opportunities, collaborating with partners, and managing the development of compelling bid proposals.
  5. International Travel & Coordination: Plan and execute international travel for sales missions, trade shows, client site inspections, and familiarization trips.
  6. Project Management: Lead or support key projects, such as developing new incentive travel programs, managing the Ambassador Circle program, and implementing targeted sales strategies.
  7. Market Research & Analysis: Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and the latest developments in the global meetings and conventions market.
  8. Data Analysis & Reporting: Track key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze sales data, and prepare reports to demonstrate the effectiveness of sales and marketing efforts.
  9. Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including hotel partners, the convention center, and other industry partners.
  10. Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry best practices, attend relevant training programs, and expand knowledge of the Washington D.C. destination.


What You Bring: Knowledge, Competencies & Skills

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in related industry field, preferably convention bureau/destination marketing organization, destination management company, hotel/venue sales and/or convention services
  • International events knowledge of and/or experience in association, professional congress organizer, event agency and/or corporation
  • Strong initiative and work ethic with ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision and rely on experience and judgment to proactively plan, complete tasks and accomplish goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft succinct yet informative emails and persuasive sales prospecting/solicitation, lead discovery calls, create executive summaries and deliver engaging presentations
  • Superior organizational, project and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally with 5-8 trips per year, sometimes for over a week at a time.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft 365/Office Suite programs, Cvent, and destination management/customer relationship management software systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S. /B.A.) preferred; preferably in hospitality or event management, business, marketing, or related field) or commensurate experience in a similar capacity.
  • Fluency in multiple languages (speech, writing and reading), preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for Washington, DC, including hotels and venues
