Position Title: Chief of Police

Employment Type: Full Time Limited

Reports To: Vice Chancellor of Finance & Administration

Full Time Pay Range: Starting at $104,500 annually

Job Summary:The Chief of Police will be an innovative and engaging leader who is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting for all aspects of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside police department and parking services. This position works in collaboration with university leaders and community law enforcement partners to promote and apply policy to university principles with a focus on safety, student success, and respect for diversity and inclusion. This position also plays a critical role in parking services and directs the operations of this auxiliary service. In addition, emergency management is critical to the successful operation of the UW-Parkside's police operations. The Chief of Police will work to ensure compliance and preparedness

  • Serve as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer, including management of police and dispatch personnel



  • Protecting the safety and property of students, faculty, and staff utilizing a community policing approach.



  • Work closely with Dean of Students and HR on situations involving matters of behavior, care, conflict and crisis management.



  • Provide support with emergency planning and response, community outreach, risk/threat assessment and emergency alert activation and testing system, such as Rave Mobile Safety.



  • Plan, direct and develop budgets to meet operating and maintenance requirements, staffing, space and capitol acquisitions.



  • Manage department personnel including interviewing, orientating, training, scheduling, discipline and officer evaluation.



  • Maintain log and summary information to compile reports and notifications as required by the Clery Act. Prepares the Annual Campus Crime Report



  • Oversees all aspects of parking, including staffing, permits, enforcement, planning, capital improvements, and maintenance.




Qualifications

Minimum Required:



  • Associate degree with 10 years of experience in law enforcement or a Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of experience in law enforcement.

  • Must be certified by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) as a Police Officer in the State of Wisconsin under DOJ 303 and must be able to maintain certification.



  • Must possess or be eligible to possess a Wisconsin Drivers License by the date of hire.



  • Knowledge of federal laws, state laws and UW System rules.




The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:




  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in criminal justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related fields.



  • Executive level of Police Leadership program such as the FBI National Academy.



  • 2-5 years of supervisory experience in a law enforcement agency.



  • Experience working with parking operations.



  • Experience in Emergency Management Operations.



  • Law enforcement experience in a campus environment or in a jurisdiction closely related.



  • Demonstrated experience in building collaborative relationships with a diverse population of stakeholders.



  • The UW-Parkside Police Department provides 24/7 police and dispatch service to approximately 5000 students and staff on a 700-acre campus.



  • The department employs a community policing approach and focuses on student success and safety.
