Where you will work: This position will be based out of Astound's Chicago, IL office. A Day in the Life of the Sr Circuit Design Engineer: Network Design:
- Create network designs, including topologies for large and small businesses.
- Produce the best architecture available to support our network and customer services.
- Design Scalable network designs that meet performance, reliability, and security requirements.
- Determine appropriate network technologies, protocols, and topologies based on business needs and best practices in alignment with company policies.
- Specify hardware and software components, including routers, switches, firewalls, adtrans and load balancers, to support the proposed network design.
Network Implementation and Development
- Produce network implementation and migration design plans by configuring and deploying network devices, services, and protocols according to design specifications.
- Collaborate with network engineers and technicians to ensure proper installation, configuration, and testing of network components.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers to procure equipment and services necessary for network deployment.
- Oversee equipment and service configuration on Network Infrastructure.
- Test and support networks in various stages of deployment.
- Create detail Method of Procedures (MOP).
Network Performance Optimization
- Implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies, traffic shaping, and network optimization techniques to prioritize critical data flows and ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct periodic performance assessments and capacity planning to anticipate future network requirements and scale infrastructure accordingly.
Overall
- Work closely with vendors to test, design, and plan for deployments of new products and features.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and "vendor: technical management and teams.
- Support Operations during outages needing Engineering support or escalation.
- Develop and maintain in-depth technical and marketing knowledge of key product lines.
- Build inventories and maintain accurate information as it pertains to ALL Internet network components; POPs, circuits, routers, switches, racks, etc.
- Work with corporate groups to provide accurate information for network elements and circuits.
- Develop, implement and maintain standardized procedures for adding, deleting and modifying records of inventoried network elements.
- Maintain standard equipment designs for our commercial network. Ensure proper implementation of new projects and networks. Knowledge of fiber, ethernet and optical networks is a plus.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Table:
- 3+ years of experience in circuit design engineering.
- Excellent understanding of data networking. Excellent understanding of various network components: Transmission
- Intermediate knowledge of Visio is a must
- Experience with Putty SSH
- Hardware (Routers and Switches, etc.).
- Must have knowledge of component and transmission medium compatibility and interconnection.
Education and Certifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record per the Fleet Policy and reliable transportation

The base salary in Illinois for this position is $80,000-$100,000 annually plus opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities. It is specific to Illinois and may not be applicable to other locations.
