Job Summary

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will work with a group of collegial, innovative, and productive health outcomes researchers and clinicians at the University of California, San Francisco, who are focused on improving the health of older persons. The Division of Geriatrics highly values mutual respect and collegiality and the Clinical Research Coordinator is an essential and highly respected part of our team. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong work ethic who has a background in clinical research or a related field, to assist the Principal Investigator (PI) on studies related to clinical research and health care quality. The ideal candidate will work with a high level of autonomy to execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols, data collection and operations of several concurrent clinical research studies under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF/ and regulating agency policies.

The CRC's duties may include: recruiting research subjects,(identification, determine eligibility and obtain consent of potential research participants), obtaining medical and health information from participants and abstracting information from electronic clinical records, administering surveys or interviews, organizing focus groups, overseeing participant payments, analyzing data using quantitative and qualitative methods, managing small databases in Redcap, and supporting the management and coordinating the tasks of multiple research studies. Administrative tasks may include coordinating project schedules and team meetings; managing Investigator's protocols in the Institutional Review Board (IRB) online system; participating in the review and writing of protocols to ensure IRB approval within University compliance; helping assure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies; implementing and maintaining quality control procedures; participating in any internal and external audits or reviews of study protocols; and performing other research related or studies-related duties as assigned.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $34.32 - $55.19 (Hourly Rate).

The Division of Geriatrics' work is grounded in a deep commitment to and respect for older persons from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. We are specialists in aging. Our expertise is in optimizing the health of older individuals. We work in the community and on virtually every UCSF campus - Parnassus, San Francisco VA Health Care System, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Mission Bay, and UCSF Center for Geriatric Care. The Division has over 130 employees including faculty, volunteer clinical faculty, fellows, staff, student interns and volunteers. Required Qualifications


  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team, takes direction from others and collaborates effectively
  • Proficiency in MS Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access Database, PowerPoint, Office 365/MS Teams, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in the health sciences, or related field
  • Previous experience working as a Clinical Research Coordinator (or similar role)
  • Qualitative data analysis experience
  • Experience with Redcap, Qualtrics or some other database/survey platforms
  • Fluency in the usage of Committee of Human Research (CHR) online iMEDris system for submission, renewal, and modification of protocols through this system.
  • Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPPA regulations
  • Experience working in the UC-systems
  • Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines:
    • Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • Health Information and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
    • The Protection of Human Research Subjects
    • CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
    • Effective Cash Handling Procedures
    • Environmental Health and Safety Training
    • Fire Safety Training
  • Experience conducting assessments for health information and qualitative and quantitative studies
  • Experience managing clinical research studies including the setting up resources needed for study conduct
  • Excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions
  • Makes sound decisions under pressure and has strong ability to assess when to escalate matters to a superior
  • Completes projects in a timely manner, and prioritizes multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Ability to create rapport and relationships with diverse patient populations, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation
  • Ability to research and follow strict regulations and guidelines
