Mission




As Product Engineer your mission is to be the "go to" person in the development of new product designs, redesign of existing products, and maintenance of existing products that conform to all aspects of product requirements including performance and PK (cost) target. Use your creative thinking and ambition to drive solutions for our customers with commitment, innovation and interaction focusing on quality and cost. Assure product documentation (drawings, BOM...) are up to date. Manage product design changes through the Engineering Change Process for the release of engineering Design Notifications. Conduct cross-functional team meetings to solve product problems during the product(s) its life cycle. Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to develop product 3D master assembly files, revise existing 3D master files and create and or revise 2D drawings for new, proposed, and existing products/projects.




Roles and Responsibilities




Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None.


Principle responsibilities include but are not limited to:




  • Make design improvements and modifications to current production products following the Engineering Change Request process. Review requested changes from Marketing, Production, Purchasing, and Technical Services (TCM/PQM). Evaluate the necessary design changes, R&D test validation, and PK impact before implementing any changes.
  • Leverage designs changes by coordinating new designs and design updates through Atlas-Copco Global Design Center (GECIA).
  • Improve SQA competence by training and educating SQA's (Supplier Quality Assurance) on the critical design aspects of part fit, form, and functionality so they in turn can manage supplier deviations and supplier comments for improved manufacturability.
  • Ensure design practice complies to the engineering department's ISO requirements.
  • Maintain documents in Atlas Copco Management System (AMCS) related to engineering processes and ISO requirements for engineering department.
  • Be integral team member in portable air compressor Noise Improvement Program through design changes to meet product sound targets. Accomplish this by working in conjunction with other design engineers or the engineering department as a whole and R&D Lab testing various design arrangements while evaluating the PK impact.
  • Become well versed in the C-to-P 2.0 (Concept to Product) processes for NPD (New Product Development). Be the internal consultant for the engineering processes and work with the business process engineer on its integration and maintenance.
  • Maintain detailed 2D component drawings with critical design GD&T using proper Atlas Copco dimensioning techniques, welding symbology, material callouts and part marking.
  • Perform BOM audits of production products by working with shop assemblers and methods engineers. Review products to see what's missing and what needs to be phased-in, phased-out or updated.
  • Create and maintain 3D master assembly models of your products using Atlas Copco drawing methods and standards using but not limited 3D CAD software (i.e., Inventor, CREO, etc.), Product Lifecycle Management software for drawings and documents (i.e., Windchill).
  • Complete projects as assigned by your supervisor.

What we expect of you?




Qualifications



Required Skills/Abilities:



  • Good command of English is required. Other languages are a plus.
  • Good command of a 3-D CAD software is required.
  • Other software skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) are required.
  • Committed to accuracy and detail.
  • Must have a proven track record of positive results.
  • Must be customer oriented.


Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial or electrical engineering.
  • 2-3 years as an Engineer in construction equipment product development preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing production company.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and Bills of Material.
  • Prior experience working with Portable Energy equipment is a plus.


Physical Requirements:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Expect to spend 50% of the time working on the product on the shop floor and in the R&D Lab.
  • Must be able to lift to 30 pounds at time (occasional).

Occasional travel may be required.
