Overview
BigBear.ai is seeking a Technical Lead for a Data Science Application. You will be the technical leader responsible for designing, developing, deploying, securing, and maintaining the production capabilities of the application. You will use executable functions (e.g., Lambdas, Step Functions, S3, AWS OpenSearch, etc.) across AWS cloud infrastructure that houses sensitive data and models that support mission-critical operations. You will lead a development team of 5-8 in their day-to-day technical assignments and lead the technical product vision. To that end, you will work with cross-functional teams to identify relevant and permissible data sources, access available infrastructure, and develop analytic products tailored to mission user requirements. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are critical in collaborating with your technical colleagues and building a rapport with the customer. This position is hybrid/remote but incumbent must have the ability to be on-site 60% of the time at a client SCIF located in Washington, D.C. Incumbent must also possess and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance.
What you will do
- Develop a technical architecture that supports the development approach
- Forecast and outline technical tasks that guide weekly development supporting technical projects.
- Partner with a government product owner and collaborate with a Data Science Team of 5-8 FTEs.
- Work with Product Manager and product teams, solution architects, and DevSecOps engineers to strategize system design and implementation for high availability, performance, and resiliency.
- Works with the development team to implement, tune, and troubleshoot the applications' infrastructure components (e.g., AWS services, network, OS, and PKI).
- Designs and implements containerization resources using IaC (e.g., Terraform).
- Design and implement shared services and configurations (e.g., logging, SSO, and VM Images) using IaC (e.g., Terraform).
- Designs and implements automated system management and monitoring capabilities that support resiliency and self-healing. Mentor and oversee junior test analysts to ensure the growth of next-generation technical resources.
What you need to have
- Bachelor's degree + 5 years' practical experience OR Associate's degree + 6 years' practical experience OR Master's degree + 2 years' practical experience OR 8 years' practical experience. Significant experience leading a team to develop an application on AWS platforms, from MVP to production deployment.
- Must possess and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance
- Significant experience leading the use of Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM Templates).
- Significant experience working in Government-owned secure networks (e.g., NIPR, SIPR, A-LAN, C-LAN)
- Significant hands-on experience developing software in Python (or similar)
- Significant experience conducting regular code, configuration, and architecture reviews to ensure technical quality and adherence to best practices.
- Experience developing, training, and evaluating AI/ML models
- Some experience implementing and/or operating application containerization.
- Some experience with centralized log configuration and monitoring tools.
- Some experience configuring Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
- Understanding of PKI and certificate management.

What we'd like you to have
- 2 years' experience building and maintaining systems within AWS.
- Experience incorporating AI / ML models and analytics into cloud products.
- Experience shepherding prototypes from POC to production
- 2 years' experience maintaining systems through automated means (e.g., IaC, scripting).
- 1 years' experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM Templates).
- 1 year leading a team of developers to develop MVPs and POCs.
- Experience working with AWS Top-Secret Cloud (i.e., C2S/C2E).
- Experience with event-based systems and/or asynchronous message queue infrastructure.
- Experience with multiple data solutions (e.g., AWS OpenSearch, NoSQL/Document, Indexed Search)
- Experience working in a Scrum based task / team structure (i.e. SAFe Agile 6.0)
- Familiarity and experience with the Intelligence Community (IC), and the intel cycle.
- Familiarity and experience with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
