The Sustainability Outreach Coordinator position supports the community through waste reduction education and outreach programs. The initiatives are communicated through numerous channels and target commercial businesses, food waste producers, single and multi-family residents, schools, and new home development projects.

Job Description:

The Outreach Coordinator will focus on some of the large projects mentioned above, as well as day-to-day tasks such as answering educating customers on state and local regulations regarding solid waste management, giving classroom presentations to elementary through college education levels, participating and tabling at community events, leading in-person technical assistance to commercial customers, producing new outreach materials, assistance on regular reports, supporting the Bay Area Outreach Team at large, and other work as assigned. This program meets and exceeds our contractual obligations with the local community and state requirements. The role is an important part of how Waste Connections connects with our community to increase sustainable efforts. This position will operate independently and in the field for many of the outreach activities.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Bachelor's degree in environmental studies/science or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for working with local recycling and waste reduction resources.
  • Experience withevent planningand implementation.
  • Intermediate skills inword processing, reporting,andgraphics softwareincludingMicrosoft Office(Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) andAdobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to conduct complex interpersonal interactions with others, trouble-shoot, solve problems, make decisions, operate independently and with discretion, and work effectively under pressure and with self-motivation.
  • Must have efficient, organized work habits and be flexible to handle needs as they arise.
  • Projects may change direction quickly. Must be able to work on multiple deadlines simultaneously and prioritize amongst different projects with short-term and long-term completion goals.
  • Demonstrate ability to be professional when working with the community and County of Santa Clara staff.
  • Experience giving presentations to large and small groups.
  • Demonstrated experience completing projects with little supervision from start to finish.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends attending community meetings and events.

Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 Annually
