Area Fitness Director

Summary Objective:
The Area Fitness Director oversees fitness operations, drives personal training revenue, and ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality fitness experiences at their club and across assigned clubs. This role is responsible for managing and developing fitness teams, implementing company initiatives, and working with club management to meet and exceed club goals. The Area Fitness Director is accountable for recruiting and retaining personal training talent and promoting the company's fitness programs to maximize member engagement.

Essential Functions:



  • Deliver the ultimate fitness experience to every member, every time.
  • Recruit, hire, and manage fitness staff for Home Club and assigned clubs.
  • Oversee all fitness programs and day-to-day fitness operations across assigned clubs.
  • Meet and exceed personal training and fitness program goals in Home Club and assigned clubs.
  • Implement and oversee the rollout of new fitness programs in collaboration with club teams.
  • Set performance goals, provide coaching, and track progress for personal training teams at all assigned clubs.


Key Responsibilities:

Talent Development & Management



  • Assist General Managers with recruiting, hiring, and training Fitness Directors for assigned clubs.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, support, and performance feedback to Fitness Directors and fitness staff.
  • Ensure that all personal trainers hold current CPR and recognized national certifications.


Program Implementation & Member Engagement



  • Lead the introduction and continuous improvement of safe, effective, and engaging training methods.
  • Drive member participation in personal training, group personal training, nutrition counseling, and other fitness services.
  • Develop and manage programs to recruit and retain personal training clients.


Operations & Compliance



  • Oversee personal training billing, scheduling, and ensure compliance with company procedures.
  • Track and review club budgets, fitness goals, and provide regular updates to management.
  • Manage the onboarding process for new members, ensuring alignment with company standards.
  • Conduct weekly calls and monthly meetings with Fitness Directors to review performance and address challenges.
  • Collaborate with General Managers at assigned clubs monthly to align on goals and address operational needs.


Member Experience & Customer Service



  • Address member concerns promptly, responding within 24-48 hours.
  • Support a clean, safe, and inviting fitness environment that reflects company standards.
  • Act as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed, and provide feedback as part of the club management team.


Additional Responsibilities:



  • Monitor safety standards, report incidents, and complete accident and witness reports as necessary.
  • Participate in annual budget planning and review process.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and model company values.
  • Understand and uphold standards for facility maintenance, employee conduct, and emergency procedures.
  • Attend all required meetings and fulfill other duties as assigned.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed to meet business needs.


Required Education & Certifications:



  • Nationally recognized personal training certification from an accepted provider required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science, physical education, kinesiology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in fitness management preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills, with a talent for listening and understanding member and team needs.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and retain staff.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
  • Friendly, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor.
  • Confidence in creating relationships and building rapport quickly with both staff and members.
  • Ability to handle member concerns with patience, professionalism, and tact.
  • Flexibility in working hours and willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, email, and basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated sales skills, with a focus on promoting fitness services to new and existing members.
