The International Defense Analytics Portfolio provides senior decision makers within the Australian Defence Force with timely and objective assessments affecting their investment strategies. Our team of experienced military professionals and operations research analysts integrate naval, air, and land warfare expertise with advanced analytic methods - including force generation modeling, agent-based tactical simulations, discrete event simulation, and operational mission analyses - to deliver strategies that redress capacity and capability gaps. Work will be conducted at SPA headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. #MC



Responsibilities

SPA is seeking an experienced senior Surface Warfare Officer to provide subject matter expertise and to advise and lead teams conducting analytic studies in support of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) such as analysis of alternatives to inform the development of formal requirements and program plans across the spectrum of science and technology (S&T), research and development (R&D), and program acquisition. This role will also be responsible for assisting in development of forward-looking analytic agendas and strategies to support RAN program objectives.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

    A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or other relevant field (such as national security studies, political science, or military history)
  • Qualified Surface Warfare Officer with 15+ years of operational surface warfare experience
  • Ability to effectively lead and advise teams developing rigorous analytic solutions to top-level Navy issues
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, the ability and willingness to multi-task, and capable of professionally addressing client questions and issues
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a technical discipline or relevant field
  • Served XO or CO of a cruiser, destroyer, or littoral combat ship
  • Experience directly interacting with, briefing, and advising DoD or armed service decision makers
  • Demonstrated familiarity with operations analysis, modeling and simulation, or other advanced analytical techniques
