The International Defense Analytics Portfolio provides senior decision makers within the Australian Defence Force with timely and objective assessments affecting their investment strategies. Our team of experienced military professionals and operations research analysts integrate naval, air, and land warfare expertise with advanced analytic methods - including force generation modeling, agent-based tactical simulations, discrete event simulation, and operational mission analyses - to deliver strategies that redress capacity and capability gaps. Work will be conducted at SPA headquarters in Alexandria Virginia.



Responsibilities

You will be responsible for 1) Developing innovative concepts of operations and capability plans, and for translating them into detailed written and graphical descriptions used to develop and support tactical, operational, and strategic surface and undersea warfare analysis, 2) Conducting military effectiveness analysis of alternatives to inform the development of formal requirements and program plans across the spectrum of science and technology (S&T), research and development (R&D), and program acquisition, and 3) Supporting and eventually take a leading role in the development and employment of modeling and simulation analysis tools and in briefing analysis results to top-level government decision makers.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

    A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or other relevant field (such as national security studies, political science, or military history)
  • Qualified Surface Warfare Officer with 3-5 years of operational surface warfare experience on a cruiser, destroyer, or littoral combat ship
  • Demonstrated skill in research, writing, critical thinking, and analysis
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, the ability and willingness to multi-task, and capable of professionally addressing client questions and issues
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW), or Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD)
  • Department Head tour on an operational cruiser, destroyer, or littoral combat ship
  • Experience directly interacting with, briefing, and advising DoD or armed service decision makers
  • Demonstrated familiarity with operations analysis, modeling and simulation, or other advanced analytical techniques
