Position Summary

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Communications at Versiti will serve as a transformative leader and key architect of the organization's communication strategies, driving visibility, engagement, and support for our mission to save and enhance lives through research and philanthropy. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer and serving as a member of the marketing division leadership team, this pivotal role will shape and deliver a cohesive communication framework that amplifies the groundbreaking work of the Versiti Blood Research Institute (VBRI) and the philanthropic impact of the Versiti Foundation as well as elevates the legacy mission of Versiti Blood Centers. The Director of Corporate and Foundation Communications will be responsible for crafting and executing a results-rich communications strategy that positions Versiti as a leader in blood health innovation and philanthropy, engages corporate and foundation partners, and ensures alignment with organizational objectives. This role will oversee all aspects of public relations, corporate communications, and philanthropic donor communications, ensuring a unified and compelling voice across all platforms. The ability to inspire action through storytelling, foster high-impact partnerships, and elevate Versiti's profile nationally and internationally will be critical to the incumbent's success.

Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership and Vision * Develop and implement an integrated, enterprise-wide communication strategy that drives Versiti's mission and strengthens brand equity across all channels. * Serve as a trusted advisor to the CMO and the marketing leadership team, providing strategic counsel on communication initiatives, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement. * Lead the development of communication frameworks for organizational milestones, including scientific breakthroughs, philanthropic campaigns, and corporate/brand initiatives.
  • Corporate and Foundation Communications * Build and maintain relationships with corporate, philanthropic, and community partners, shaping narratives that inspire long-term support and engagement. * Oversee all external communications, including media relations, thought leadership, executive positioning, and crisis communication.
  • Data-driven Engagement and Metrics * Establish KPIs to measure the effectiveness and ROI of communication strategies, providing data-driven insights and actionable recommendations to senior leadership. * Leverage analytics to continuously refine messaging and outreach, enhancing stakeholder engagement and maximizing the impact of communication initiatives.
  • Team Leadership and Development * Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing communications team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. * Inspire excellence through clear vision-setting, effective delegation, and professional development opportunities. * Champion diversity of thought, engagement, and dynamic teamwork to drive exceptional communication outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Storytelling * Partner with researchers, clinicians, donors, and leadership to identify compelling stories that illustrate the impact of VBRI's work and the Foundation's support. * Craft mission-driven messaging tailored to key audiences, including donors, corporate partners, and the scientific community. * Promote a culture of collaboration and open communication, fostering alignment across internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Digital and Social Media Content Creation * Lead the evolution of Versiti's digital presence, leveraging social media and emerging technologies to reach and engage diverse audiences. * Collaborate with digital marketing and creative teams to develop impactful, mission-driven campaigns that resonate across platforms.
  • Event Communications Support * Lead the communication strategy for fundraising events, scientific conferences, and community outreach programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. * Develop event-specific messaging and promotional materials to drive attendance, engagement, and donor participation. * Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver consistent and impactful event communications.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification
  • Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Complies with all standard operating policies and procedures


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field. required
  • Master's Degree communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field. preferred

Experience

  • 7-9 years 7-10 years of progressive experience in communications or marketing, preferably within a nonprofit, healthcare, or higher education/academic environment required
  • 4-6 years Proven track record in public relations, media relations, and social media oversight preferred
  • 4-6 years Demonstrated success in managing public relations, media relations, and community relations and understanding the relationship between them preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong portfolio highlighting expertise in strategic communications across a variety of media, social media, PR, and corporate communications campaign management required
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate strategic concepts and creative ideas to diverse audiences required
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects effectively required
  • Competency in financial management, including budget development and performance measurement preferred
  • Strategic and executional prowess with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset required
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with a sound sense of ownership and accountability preferred
  • Strong understanding of consumer behavior, with a passion for storytelling and a keen interest in emerging trends and cultural relevance preferred
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to building and leading high-performance teams required
