At Children's Colorado, all echocardiograms are performed by sonographers specifically trained in pediatrics which supports our high standard of care for all of our patients. The Cardiac Sonographer performs clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult. As a leader in pediatric heart care, our Institute is the largest in the region, treating more than 20,000 patients each year. We offer multiple levels for this role, welcoming registry-eligible sonographers, and those with intermediate to extensive experience.

Qualifications

Education: Associate's degree and/or graduation from a formal sonography program is required (all levels).

Experience:

  • Associate Cardiac Sonographer: No experience is required.
  • Cardiac Sonographer: One year of cardiac sonography experience.
  • Senior Cardiac Sonographer: Three years of cardiac sonography experience.
  • Advanced Cardiac Sonographer: Five years of cardiac sonography experience.

Equivalency: Completion of a two-year college program with emphasis on imaging modalities or other associated medical program; American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registry eligible.

Certifications: (may vary based on position level)

  • Obtain the Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential within one year from the date of program graduation.
  • Pediatric Registry required (requirement is for individual to obtain the certification within 18 months of hire for Associate level).
    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) through ARDMS or;
    • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through CCI
  • BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire (all levels)

Hourly Salary: (Based on position level, credentials, and years of relevant experience)

  • Cardiac Sonographer Associate: $33.12 - $49.68
  • Cardiac Sonographer: $36.51 - $54.77
  • Cardiac Sonographer Senior: $40.26 - $60.39
  • Cardiac Sonographer Advanced: $44.38 - $66.58

Eligible Incentives: Relocation Assistance for candidates moving more than 100 miles.

Job Highlights:

  • Performs clinical echocardiographic (echo) studies, newborns to adults, for congenital heart disease with a moderate degree of difficulty or complexity requiring knowledge of hemodynamics, physiology, and congenital heart disease.
  • Completes echocardiography studies strictly following departmental sequence and protocol.
  • Completes Doppler studies and obtains appropriate color flow and spectral analysis Doppler data including advanced analysis of hemodynamics.
  • Prepares accurate preliminary summaries of the echocardiography findings for cardiologist interpretation providing documentation of observed echo findings; reviews completed studies with cardiologist
  • Maintains clean and safe practices, procedures, equipment, and workspace in order to contribute to a healthy patient care environment.
  • Performs routine transthoracic echocardiograms on pediatric patients in the network of care and regional sites as needed; and assists with scheduling conflicts, changes, cancellations and workflow issues.
