ABOUT THE JOB

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Laborer to perform tasks involving physical labor at building, highway, heavy construction, excavation, and demolition project sites. The Laborer may operate a variety of equipment and instruments.

Job Functions:

  • Identifies and operates hand and power tools as needed, including air hammers, earth tampers, concrete mixers, small mechanical hoists, saws, power drills, skid steers, forklifts, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.
  • Reads and interprets construction plans, instructions, and specifications.
  • Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, including rubble and debris.
  • Controls passing traffic.
  • Signals Equipment Operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of equipment.
  • Assists Electrician with loading, transporting, unloading, and furnishing materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Restocks worksite supplies and materials as necessary.
  • Identifies and follows safe working procedures.
  • Identifies and stops unsafe work practices that present imminent danger to themselves and others.
  • Performs other physical labor and responsibilities as assigned, including, but not limited to digging ditches and trenches, backfilling excavations, sealing structural components, measuring and recording areas, unloading and identifying materials, assembling and erecting equipment such as scaffolding, pouring concrete, setting braces to support the sides of excavations, assisting Electricians.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of general construction experience, including exposure to utility work, earth work, and/or concrete work
  • Some experience operating equipment and hand tools
  • Some experience with hoisting and rigging
  • Exposure to trench safety, excavation safety, and other applicable safety standards
  • Medium voltage electrical or pipe laying experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to pass a required drug screen and background check
  • Ability to work overtime and some weekends as required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Ability to gain access to military installations and facilities if applicable
  • Ability to work effectively with a team
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Knowledge of and ability to use power and hand tools, materials, and other equipment used on construction sites
  • Knowledge of excavation and backfilling methods, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures specific to labor work, including OSHA standards
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and direction both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to learn on the job
  • Ability to assist, mentor and/or train other Laborers
  • Full understanding of Laborer tasks to be performed on a job site and knowledge to complete tasks with little to no direction
  • Additional knowledge or skills related to carpentry, pipelaying or pipefitting, surveying and grading, or concrete finishing
  • Demonstrate willingness to take on job challenges
  • Demonstrate energy and stamina to accomplish work tasks
  • Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and dependability
  • Demonstrate careful attention to detail and thoroughness
