The International Writing Program (IWP) and The Writing University seek to hire multiple creative, motivated, and detail-oriented student workers as Communications Assistants. This position will assist the IWP and The Writing University with producing social media, podcast, and website content, as well as managing and expanding the social media presences through engaging and innovative content.

Time & pay: $8.50 per hour (up to 20 hours per week), beginning immediately. This is an in-person position.

Required Qualifications:

Availability to work during typical university hours (8am-5pm) is required. Communication Assistants will work with IWP and The Writing University staff on an agreed-upon schedule.

Must be a University of Iowa student

Desired qualifications:

Strong interest in podcasting, writing, and/or digital media.

Proficiency with social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok) and content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).

A valid US driver's license, driving record subject to UI Fleet Services requirements (a minimum of three years, if that period includes licenses from other states/countries, will need access to the number for review).

Key Areas of Responsibilities

* Assist with production tasks, including podcast episode editing, transcription, and uploading.

* Collaborate on script reviews and episode outlines to ensure quality and consistency.

* Help coordinate and schedule recordings with guests.

* Assist in managing social media presence.

* Create promotional materials (e.g., clips, audiograms, graphics) to drive audience engagement.

* Develop and implement creative content for social media channels, including posts, stories, and reels.

* Collaborate with staff to ensure branding and messaging align across platforms.

* Monitor analytics and adjust content strategies based on performance metrics.

* Archive and organize digital files

* Experience working with content management systems, such as Drupal.
