Job Summary:

We offer an exciting and unique place for individuals looking to develop hospitality management techniques by working in a large entertainment venue. With direct supervision from Food & Beverage Management, this position will assist Food and Beverage Leadership and supervise Food & Beverage team members on assigned shifts. Responsible for supporting the Companies Mission, Vision, and Values by providing Fun and Games, through the Canterbury Way.

Learning Objectives:



  • Develop leadership skills, negotiation and interpersonal communication techniques by working with team members and guests.
  • Learn hospitality management skills by assisting Canterbury Park Leadership in oversight of a variety of frontline positions.
  • Develop communication skills by applying analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Learn from experienced industry professionals in a fast paced and high energy hospitality environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Lead by example.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high degree of hospitality, as well as a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Foster strong morale through teamwork and collaboration.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports for growth opportunities.
  • Assist in Food and Beverage operations in diverse capacities which include managing concessions, bars, restaurant service, or working directly with Senior Food and Beverage Leadership.
  • Assist in management of Front House Food & Beverage employees, including staffing, training, and monitoring performance.
  • Work in front line positions when required.
  • Understand, endorse, teach and enforce the Canterbury Park mission, philosophy, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and safeguard the inventory of products, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a positive team environment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma/GED OR any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Must be able to interact with guests, co-workers and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Must be adaptable, versatile, and tactful in dealings with the public.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work well under pressure.
  • Must be able to pass Canterbury Park's pre-employment screening which includes a criminal background check and verification of work history.
  • Must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Pursuing or has acquired an Associate or Bachelor's degree in in hospitality, hotel or tourism management or equivalent experience in a similar industry.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Food & Beverage industry experience
  • Mature, responsible, dependable, and able to work independently, and as part of a team.

  • Maintain a flexible working schedule, which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays during the live race season May - September.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job, this position requires frequent standing, walking, stooping, twisting, and bending.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
