Position Location: Cambridge, MA, onsite, no travel required

About this role:

The Discovery Sciences (DSc) department within Novartis Biomedical Research (BR) in Cambridge, MA, has an exciting opportunity for a B.S. or M.S. level scientist. In this role, you will be part of a team focused on early drug discovery. Your primary responsibilities will be to develop disease-relevant cell-based and/or biochemical assays used in the context of mid-size to large screening campaigns to identify chemical starting points or targets for novel drug discovery programs.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Develop and optimize biochemical and cellular assays for hit compound identification and characterization with a high-throughput screening mindset and execute mid to large screens using compounds or genetic reagents for drug/target discovery.
* Perform mechanism-of-action studies using cell biology, molecular biology/genetics, and signaling approaches.
* Engage with multidisciplinary project teams to design, execute, analyze, document experiments and communicate results in team settings.

* Collaborate across departments and with external partners to foster growth and innovation within the team and department, and contribute to the culture of the group, are key aspects of this role
* Develop relationships with stakeholders and collaborators and represent Novartis values of transparency, integrity, courage, innovation, quality and collaboration.

Minimum requirements:

* B.S. or M.S. degree in biological sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology or related fields with 4+ years of hands-on research experience in mammalian cell biology and biochemistry, preferably in industry.
* Proficiency in biochemical and cellular assay development, high-throughput screening, automation, and high content imaging.
* Experience working with, troubleshooting, and protocol development with automated and semi-automated devices including liquid handling, acoustic transfer, plate washing, imaging, fluorescence and luminescence plate readers and automated laboratory scheduling software including High-Res Biosystems Cellario and BioSero Green Button Go.
* Candidate should enjoy working in a collaborative team environment and be able to handle multiple tasks efficiently as well as troubleshoot problems.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desirable Skills:

* Knowledge in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques including transfection, viral transduction, Western blotting, and CRISPR.
* Ability to handle large data sets, and familiarity with GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and Spotfire.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $85,400 to $158,600/year for Senior Scientist I, and $93,800 to $174,200/year for Senior Scientist II; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
