THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will supervise food service operations while providing valuable vocational training to inmates. Your duties include teaching inmates food preparation, production, service, and baking techniques. You will also instruct them on the proper and safe use of tools and equipment, covering essential practices for cleaning, maintenance, and storage. Additionally, you will guide inmates in preparing meals based on established recipes, ensuring timely preparation and serving. Part of your responsibilities will involve inspecting food service areas, equipment, and food items to ensure strict adherence to safety and sanitation standards. You will also review census and menu data, adjust recipes as necessary, and manage food leftovers to minimize waste, creatively recycle them into usable products.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with rotating days off.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
