Knife River is looking for a dependable GPS/Grade Setter to join our team!

Job Summary:

Responsible for safely setting grade stakes, model building and material takeoffs. Guide equipment operators on highway, parking lot and civil sitework projects.

Primary Job duties include:



  • Basic surveying, operation of equipment, model building, material takeoffs, and drone operation.
  • Includes verification of grade specifications, measurements, staking grade with GPS and traditional grade setting equipment.
  • Read and understand construction plans and specifications to ensure jobs are built correctly and to spec.
  • Collect and utilize information using GPS equipment.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations.
  • Must be self-motivated, a team-player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer relations and to act courteous/respectful of others.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, GPS equipment operation, etc.).
  • Able to monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • 2+ years of experience grade checking and staking preferred.
  • Experience with GPS equipment for surveying preferred.
  • Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as tractors, rollers, skid steers and loaders.
  • Acceptable interpersonal communication skills.
  • High school diploma or GED.
