Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Accounting to join our motivated and successful government services company. The ideal candidate will lead a diverse team of accounting personnel utilizing Costpoint Deltek, Microsoft SharePoint and other tools to manage our financial operations. The candidate will oversee and optimize all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, travel and more. They will direct and implement accounting policies and procedures, maintaining responsibility for accounting operations and systems, analysis and report preparation, and leading accounting professionals and staff.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

    Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, travel, bank reconciliation, end of month closeouts and more
  • Implement accounting policies and procedures that adhere to governmental, financial, and tax regulations and comply with GAAP and IFRS standards
  • Recruit, train, manage, and evaluate accounting department staff
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial invoicing and reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Coordinate with CFO and Controller to assist with managing cash flow and working capital to optimize the company's financial position
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company financial data integrity
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments to support and implement company-wide initiatives
  • Lead the annual LLC budgeting process, meeting requirements and timelines set by the CFO/Controller

Systems and Process Optimization

  • Lead implementation and continued advancement of Cost Point and Cost Point modules inside AVIAN LLC.
  • Lead change management for accounting initiatives, to include integrated tool implementation and expansion. This includes creating training materials, executing communication plans, proactively identifying gaps and solutions.
  • Continuously improve accounting processes to increase efficiency and accuracy

Team Leadership

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the accounting department
  • Serve on the AVIAN LLC Leadership Team, representing the accounting department while closely collaborating and coordinating across all departments for the good of the company


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; master's degree or CPA preferred (substitution will be considered with demonstrated accounting experience in a similar role)
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance within government services contracting or related services environment, with at least 5 years in a management role
  • Skills:
  • Extensive experience in government contracting financial management
  • Expert-level proficiency in Costpoint Deltek
  • Costpoint Administrator experience a plus, but not required
  • Strong understanding of federal regulations related to government contracting
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Outstanding leadership and communication abilities
  • Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

This position has an on-site requirement in Patuxent River, MD and is not eligable for a remote candidate. Hybrid telework may be available at the discresson of leadership.

Salary range: $125k - $165k (The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.)
