Description

Columbia Law School is seeking a full-time Fellow in Public Economic Law. The incumbent will be appointed as an Associate Research Scholar. This is a two-year appointment and will run from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027.

The Project on Public Economic Law, led by Professor Lev Menand, will focus on promoting research and scholarship on how public law structures economic activity including through antitrust and trade regulation; the law of networks, platforms, and utilities; the law of enterprise organization and ownership; securities regulation; administrative law; and tax law, among other areas.

This position is intended for a person who expects to begin a tenure-track law school teaching career in the 2027-2028 academic year and desires an interim position that will help prepare for such a career by offering the time and facilities needed to do serious research and to develop further expertise. Candidates must have a J.D. and an exceptional academic record from a major law school. Approximately one-fifth of the incumbent's time will be devoted to research and other activities in support of the Project. These responsibilities, primarily helping to organize an annual public economic law conference, will allow the incumbent to work in close collaboration with members of the faculty and other academics and practitioners engaging in similar work. The remainder of the incumbent's time will be devoted to writing at least one law review article on a topic in public economic law, broadly construed, to use as a job market paper and to interview for entry-level positions at law schools. The position involves no teaching obligations and will permit the individual to participate in a range of Columbia Law School faculty workshops and other activities.
