The Sleep Clinical Review Technician is responsible for clinical history, signs/symptoms, diagnosis code and test order review. Works directly with team members and ordering clinicians and their staff to educate and support appropriate documentation for coding, authorizations and appropriate testing.

This position will offer a hybrid schedule. Will be on site in Neptune/ Edison on occasion. Must also have the ability to travel to various sites within the network if needed.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Sleep Clinical Review Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Review patient charts to determine that the coding, clinicals and test order documentation is appropriate. Perform clinical reviews and work with referring clinician offices to correct and or send any additional information as required to complete testing. Make coding changes in the system if inappropriate codes are identified.
  • Review each chart to assure all diagnoses are consistent with symptoms and signs and test orders. Perform chart reviews to determine if the documentation is appropriately/accurately completed per the patients diagnosis, as well as per state, federal and The Joint Commission and or discipline specific national accreditation guidelines.
  • Perform focused analysis of coding issues to assure that coding accurately reflects the patient's clinical condition. Identify areas of concern through focused coding audits. Demonstrates the ability to work with team members and referring clinicians and their offices regarding coding issues. Demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness when interacting with team members and medical staff in collecting information for accurate and timely coding.
  • Identify areas of concern through focused clinical audits. Trend data obtained from reports and review results with managers.
  • Identify areas for improvement for team members and referring clinicians that have been identified with inconsistencies in documentation, or documentation that does not accurately reflect the patients condition. Work to develop a plan of action and follow up.
  • Review all new charts within 3 business days.
  • Review referral queue on a daily basis. Resolve data discrepancies/ variances.
  • Assign referral to department team members for authorization and or scheduling.
  • Meet with the labs, site managers and other members of the interdisciplinary team on a weekly basis to review data, trends and performance.
  • Enter data timely to meet productivity standards.
  • Provide education to referral sources and internal teams.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Demonstrate flexibility with job responsibilities in all areas.
  • Adheres to HMHs Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Healthcare experience.
  • Prior experience with Authorizations, Scheduling and Coding of associated testing.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • More than 5 years healthcare experience

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Polysomnography Technologist Cerfication.
