Summary

As a Union CDL Driver Trainee (Delivery Helper II), you will train to become a CDL Delivery Driver under the supervision of a Columbia Driver Trainer. Union CDL Driver Trainees will perform driver duties that will allow them to obtain the necessary knowledge and experience to qualify for a Professional CDL Driver position at Columbia Distributing after successful completion of the program.

Primary Responsibilities



  • Learn and acquire skills essential to drive a CDL-classed vehicle (A & B) under direct supervision of an assigned Delivery Driver Trainer
  • Learn and exhibit understanding of company SOP's, processes, and requirements associated with DOT standards and compliance
  • Actively participates in hands on instruction and training exercises including, being observed during ride-alongs for coaching and feedback
  • Successfully complete a 8-16 week Union CDL Delivery Driver Trainee program depending on skill and aptitude (but no more than 120 days)
  • Assist Delivery Driver on assigned route, delivering and merchandising Company's products in a safe, timely and professional manner when needed
  • Develop and maintain positive, cooperative and team-oriented relationships with co-workers
  • Adhere to and follow all Company policies, procedures and governmental regulations including state liquor laws.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all assigned accounts
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with those of the Company's Core Values at all times
  • Complete all other tasks or projects as assigned

Physical Demands



  • Lift/carry and push/pull 35 lbs. repetitively, moving kegs up to 165 lbs.
  • Bend/stoop/crouch/squat/use arms/wrists/hands/grasp
  • Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle


Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, days and hours of work vary and may include weekends; overtime may be required.

Travel

Local travel only

Required Education and Experience



  • Valid CDL Class A Permit (CLP) and DOT Medical Card
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Minimum of 21 years of age



Preferred Education and Experience



  • Previous grocery or retail experience
  • Previous merchandising or warehousing experience

Reports to: Delivery Supervisor
