Hourly Rate: $54.60

Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Public Safety/Chief of Police for the Department of Public Safety, the Captain of Professional Standards & Advocacy leads the department's internal investigations; oversees the department's risk management, Victim Services, and Clery Act reporting staff; and represents the department at university Title IX and Care Team meetings.

The Captain is committed to maintaining the integrity of the department by ensuring that all investigations of Public Safety staff are conducted fairly, efficiently, and according to departmental standards; that victims receive access to the support and resources they need; and that the data and reporting provided by their unit is accurate, timely, and within the required guidelines. The Captain stays abreast of best practices to ensure continuous improvement of their areas of oversight and employs data-driven decision-making to develop their unit's goals and procedures.

Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in a job-related field.
* A minimum of ten years of certified police experience.
* An equivalent combination of education, appropriate training, and related experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities
* Ability to handle sensitive matters in a confidential and professional manner.
* Must have skills and competencies in public safety and emergency management, including public safety, outreach/engagement, health preparedness, emergency planning, crisis communication, physical plant preparedness, and preparedness training/education.
* Skilled in critical thinking and problem-solving, as well as being innovative and creative.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with law enforcement and security principles, in addition to the laws and regulations governing them.
* Requires visual acuity that is sufficient to pass practical yearly firearm qualification course.

Preferred
* Ten years of investigative experience.
* Current MPOETC certification or certification under the Municipal Police Officer's Training Act (Act 120) or the ability to obtain a MPOETC certification within 6 months of date of hire.
*Internal Affairs or relevant major case investigation experience.
