Laboratory for Elementary-Particle Physics - Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based Sciences and Education

Position Summary:
A postdoctoral associate is sought for collaborative work in the Laboratory for Elementary-Particle Physics (LEPP), a part of the Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based Sciences and Education (CLASSE) at Cornell University. The successful candidate will work on the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The Cornell CMS group has a broad involvement in many aspects of the experiment, from data analysis to detector operations and high luminosity detector upgrades (HL-LHC) of the pixel forward detector and the track trigger. The successful candidate will actively engage in searches for long-lived particles with displaced vertices and contribute to one of the HL-LHC upgrade projects at Cornell University with preference towards the pixel forward detector upgrade.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in experimental high-energy physics is required by the start of the
  • appointment
  • Strong record of accomplishment in data analysis
  • Experience or interest in detector work or detector operations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest and ability to work in a collaborative research environment
  • Record of scientific publications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical experts, operations staff, and researchers of all levels including graduate and undergraduate students
  • Proficiency in science communication, written and oral, formal and informal

Compensation:
The Salary Range for this position is $63,000 - $68,000.

Additional Information:

The term of this position is nominally for one year, with the possibility of renewal up to five years in total, based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. The position is based in Ithaca, New York, though regular travel to CERN in Switzerland is expected. The position is available to begin as early as April 2025. Pay Range:

$61,008.00 - $87,000.00
