Reliability Engineering - Training Department The Training Team is dedicated to fostering expertise and proficiency within Vantage Data Centers' workforce. Responsible for comprehensive training initiatives across all global facilities, our team ensures the mastery of critical systems including Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls. From guiding successful commissioning processes during new construction to enhancing the reliability and performance of existing infrastructure, we design tailored training programs. These programs support operational excellence by equipping Site Operations Teams with the necessary technical knowledge and skills. Position Overview This role will be based in: Sterling, VA and is in alignment with our flexible work policy. (3 days on site required, 2 days flexible) The Critical Systems Training Developer, Electrical is primarily responsible for designing, developing, and continuously improving electrical systems training programs. This role focuses on building a comprehensive training portfolio that equips Vantage Data Centers' operations and maintenance teams with the skills necessary to effectively manage critical electrical systems, such as switchgear, UPS systems, power distribution, and generators. While this role will involve some instruction and hands-on teaching, the primary focus is on program development and scaling electrical systems training across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in electrical systems, instructional design experience, and a passion for developing effective training programs that enhance the safety, reliability, and performance of critical data center infrastructure. Essential Job Functions
Lead the design and creation of comprehensive training programs for electrical systems, focusing on critical infrastructure such as switchgear, UPS systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and generators. Develop a full suite of training materials, including instructional guides, videos, interactive exercises, and e-learning modules, ensuring content is aligned with the operational requirements and safety regulations. Work closely with subject matter experts, electrical engineers, and operations teams to gather relevant insights and create accurate, up-to-date training content. Develop and implement electrical systems training programs that integrate into Vantage's Learning Management System (LMS), making training easily accessible and scalable across all data center sites. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, feedback, and performance data, and adjust content as needed to ensure continuous improvement. Create clear, concise, and comprehensive training manuals, troubleshooting guides, and preventive maintenance procedures. Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry standards for electrical systems and incorporate this knowledge into training programs. Deliver classroom, virtual, and hands-on training sessions when required, supporting the practical application of the programs developed. Ensure all training programs adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations, including OSHA and NFPA standards. Work with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, and external vendors, to ensure that training programs align with broader business goals and operational requirements. Duties
Develop interactive training programs focused on the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical electrical systems, emphasizing real-world applications. Design training content that promotes best practices for maintaining electrical systems in a data center environment, with a focus on safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Prepare and update training materials, including manuals, guides, and tutorials, that cover system operation, design, and emergency response procedures. Conduct skills gap analyses and adjust training programs based on the evolving needs of the operations team. Ensure alignment between vendor-provided training and Vantage standards for electrical system operation and maintenance. Develop and conduct drills and exercises to prepare staff for emergency scenarios related to electrical systems. Track, report, and analyze training completion, proficiency gains, and skills development, providing regular updates to management. Implement the company's Learning Management System (LMS) for tracking training participation and certification in electrical systems. Communicate regularly with management regarding training program effectiveness, areas for improvement, and future training needs.
Job Requirements
5+ years of experience in electrical systems operations and maintenance, focusing on critical systems such as switchgear, UPS systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and generators. 2+ years of experience developing and delivering technical training programs, with a strong background in instructional design. In-depth knowledge of electrical systems commonly found in data centers, including an understanding of power distribution, generator operations, and critical load management. Strong understanding of electrical safety regulations, including OSHA and NFPA standards, with a focus on safety and compliance in training programs. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and blueprints. Proven experience in troubleshooting and maintaining complex electrical systems in mission-critical environments. Expertise in instructional design, creating hands-on activities, assessments, and e-learning content. Strong technical writing skills for developing training manuals, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and delivering training content. Electrical certification or licensing (e.g., journeyman electrician, electrical technician) is preferred. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is a plus. Willingness to travel up to 25% for training development and delivery purposes. Successful completion of a background check is required.
